I love this detective series. It talks of the personal life as well as the professional lives of the detectives which makes for interesting reading.

Chidlow House is not a friendly looking place and in the dark Lincolnshire countryside with high winds and teeming rain it becomes a creepy, scary building with secrets to hide. A small group of privileged sixth formers are staying there for a private study week to help them prepare for university. No one is supposed to leave the grounds but some do including school friends Cressida and Natasha, the problems start when they fail to return.

This is the fourth book in the DS Karen Hart series and is another enjoyable instalment. The main protagonists are all present but this time they are joined by other characters caught up in both sides of the investigation in many different ways.

Unfortunately, although there were no shortage of suspects available, some of them seemed a little stereotypical. Obviously there is a reason stereotyping occurs but the story could have been lifted by a surprise or two along the way. Without any spoilers a few of the outcomes were ones which are well used in the crime genre. However, the lack of possible motives when the hunt for the missing girls began created a tense atmosphere which worked well alongside the previously mentioned inclement weather.

There is a back story running throughout these books related to the tragedy which colours every aspect of Karen Hart's life. There is a big step forward hinted at here and I am looking forward to finding out what will happen to her next.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who is already enjoying this series or who doesn't mind dropping in mid arc.

1.0 out of 5 stars Thin plot, clunky writing, avoid...

This was a last minute purchase late at night after finishing a much better book. I struggled to complete it and found it pointless at the end. I guess it is part of a plan to make a long series but you would need stamina and a high boredom threshold to read a few of these. The main character is not all that likeable and the villains are caricatures. There are too many of this type of book on Kindle now as authors try to make money through multi volume series charting a central character. That can be excellent if well done, but this isn’t.

4.0 out of 5 stars Getting better!

I enjoyed this latest in the series. There was thankfully more focus on the crime and the suspects and less on Karen's anxieties and health issues. I also prefer crime novels that don't keep slipping backwards and forwards in time. It's a tightly woven plot over a week and concerns the disappearance of two female A Level students from a study week in a stately home near Lincoln. There's a good sense of place and clear focus on the investigation process as secrets are uncovered. Recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I wasn't expecting to like it quite as much as I did, as I'm not always a huge fan of books written in the third person.

This book tells the story of two young girls who go missing from a residential study course, held at a countryside stately home. We are introduced to the usual array of suspicious characters as the story progresses, some of whom are rather too 'suspicious' to be real contenders, but it keeps you guessing nonetheless.

There are one or two seemingly pointless sidelines and a couple of silly errors when it comes to police procedure and points of law, but keeping those to one side, this is an easy to read, enjoyable detective novel. I've just purchased the next in the series, so am looking forward to getting stuck in.

It's not often I dish out 5 stars for a Kindle Unlimited murder mystery - but this one deserves it!

Book #5 in the DS Karen Hart series and I couldn't put my Kindle down. 2 girls go missing from a study group at a stately home. DI Morgan, Karen and the team investigate.

There are more red herrings than a Whitby kipper factory! Excellent πŸ‘Œ

If you liked the previous books in the series, you'll really enjoy this one too. The best book in the series thus far. Now I am really looking forward to book #6. 😁😁

A great crime thriller which drew me in from the first few lines. I love the ghost angle, it lends another layer to the story. With more suspects than fleas on a mangy dog, I had to keep reading until it all played out.but it kept me guessing. A fabulous series which I am thoroughly enjoying.

This is the forth piece into DS Hart's story. Unlike the previous 3 this one doesn't have the expected happy ending, which makes it more real, one of the attributes that I like the most about the series.
Gripping from the first page and with a plot twist that I really didn't see coming.
I'm starting to get the empty feeling of knowing that this is coming to an end soon.
Highly recommended if you like a good detective narrative!
