Loved this book for young adults, read it in one sitting. Yvette the queen of the paranormal did an amazing job with the first instalment in a hopefully long series.

An excellent read…

I have read one of Yvette’s other books Archie the Ghost Hunter and so wanted to read this when it came out. It is really, really good. I would say it is a young adults book. I thought it was excellent. On Halloween three young friends, Eve, Tom and Clovis decided to visit a haunted house located in the middle of Epping Forest and do a Ouija board. Unfortunately they realise too late that something has followed them home and wants their attention.
I could definitely see this being made into a film, maybe for Netflix, and look forward to other books becoming available.

What another fantastic ghostly story from the queen of ghost hunting, Yvette Fielding. The start of this book sent shivery chills straight down my spine when the characters visit a derelict old house in the thick of Epping Forest. Anyone who has watched Most Haunted from the get go would be reminded of the adventurous investigations into Epping Forest and the creepy, edgy vibe that place emits. So from the very start we’re thrown into the deep end of all things creepy. I’m not even going to lie, I was definitely a little spooked! And that’s not just the story itself but the descriptive way Yvette Fielding writes. I felt I was a ghost alongside the three friends, travelling with them on their secret escapades to the house in the woods. I felt their fear, tension and excitement. I felt the chilly breeze coming through the trees and I felt the very same creepy and spooky vibe that the house that loomed ahead of them gave.
The characters all had very quirky personalities and each different in their own way. I also can help the uncanny likeliness of the three main characters to crew members of most haunted:
Eva - Yvette
Tom - Karl
Clovis - Glen.
Then there is Eva’s uncle Rufus, who is just his own very special character. His inventions are actually really good, and I do wonder if they could work in the real-world.. well some of them, some of them are little far out there.
This book was incredibly spooky! The storyline was definitely a whirlwind of ghostly encounters and spine tingling creepiness. It feels so real that you find it hard to separate the book and what you’re reading to you’re own reality (maybe that’s just me because I live with very mischievous poltergeist).
Kudos to Yvette Fielding! She’s a woman of many talents - from ghost hunting and podcasting to writing incredibly amazing stories. I can’t wait for another book in this series! The excitement is real!

A bit daft in places

Some of the character decisions left me scratching my head. SPOILERS AHEAD! For instance, a ghost wrecks a house and the occupants go back to sleep afterwards as if nothing has happened. Then, later on in the story, a character gets thrown about by a ghost and then gets up and dances a jig. Folks, people wouldn't do that! They just wouldn't. And the ghost, which is seemingly some sort of guard, just goes away and is no longer a threat. I wasn't a fan of the beginning either, where we get inside a ghost's head. The author needs to think more about how people would react in such situations. Congrats to Mr Rufus and the kids though. They discovered more spooky goings on in one night than the author did in 15 years of Most Haunted.

Looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

I'm an adult who occasionally enjoys reading books aimed at kids and 'young adults'. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. There was a really good story with characters you care about. Yvette Fielding has a lovely writing style. There are some genuinely spooky moments! I'd say it's aimed more at teens and above than pre-teens -- not because it's particularly gruesome, but because some of the 'family issues' are more serious than you might expect in, for example, RL Stine's 'Goosebumps' books. I'm really looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

The characters, fluidity of the words, scary storyline makes this an excellent read. I only received this yesterday and I’m on chapter 5 already! I hope there will be more to come from the ghost Hunter chronicles because I am obsessed!
- for those who didn’t know, a lot of the ghostly goings-on are inspired by Yvette’s paranormal experiences which makes the book that bit more terrifying.
Definitely recommend or would make a great gift.
