My new neighbor is a firefighter--and a scorching hot single dad--but I swear I didn’t set off that smoke alarm on purpose.
(And I was beyond mortified when he rushed in and saw me naked.)
Nothing happened, of course--because I, Winnie MacAllister, romance junkie and owner of a constantly broken heart, have sworn off men for one solid year.
Even protective men with chiseled jaws, bulging biceps, and deep brown eyes that make my breath come faster. Even former SEALs with broad chests and strong hands that make my skin sizzle. Even gorgeous, grumpy guys who have their hands full raising two adorable little girls and claim they don’t believe in love.
Until Dex kisses me one night, and I drop all my defenses.
(Also my underwear.)
He says he’s not gentle, and he’s right. He says I should take the dream job I’m offered in another state, and he’s right. He says he’s too old for me and could never be the man I deserve.
He’s wrong.
Dex and I might be twelve years apart, but the fire between us is the kind that will never burn out.
How can I convince him to give happily-ever-after with me a chance?

Winnie has sworn off men for a year because she always falls in love too quickly, and the men are always jerks.
Dex moves in next to Winnie and his 2 daughters instantly love her.
Winnie and Dex start a no strings arrangement and both promise that no feelings will be involved.
Ex Navy Seal, single dad AND he's grumpy? Shut up and take my money!! 🤣🤣 Cue Dex.
He's just moved next door to Winnie, she's an absolute ray of sunshine. She's on a love ban and he's not looking for a relationship. They know where they stand so just a casual hook up shouldn't be too complicated right?
This book has:
➡️ single parent trope (is it a trope? I dunno but I'm into it 😆)
➡️ grumpy sunshine trope
➡️ age gap romance
➡️ dual POV
My favourite things about this book:
✅️ I LOVED Dex's potty mouth! 😆
✅️ it literally had me laughing out loud
✅️ although Winnie was the "sunshine" element, she was stronger than I thought she'd be. I love how she didn't act like a love sick teenager and that the author didn't write her as being really naive despite the age difference.(He's 34/she's 22). She was an adult and she knew what she wanted. She was in control of her feelings...kind of haha.
✅️ I loved Dex & Winnies story but the real stars of the show were his daughters! Usually I find how authors write kids a little irritating but these girls were soo hilarious. The relationship with their dad was beautiful and they added soo much to this story. Absolutely loved them!
Humour & spice are the perfect combo and it was done in this book purrrfectly! (See what I did there? Just read the book 😉)

It follows a second generation character from Cloverleigh Farms but it can be read as a standalone. Winnie’s parents are from the first book in the series.
It was a cute contemporary romance with an age gap, single dad and grumpy/sunshine trope.
Winnie is a hopeless romantic who has sworn off men for a year after a breakup because she falls in love too fast. She moves in next door to an older and very attractive Dex, who is a fire fighting single dad of two little girls. Dex has sworn off relationships after the breakdown of his marriage and no longer believes in love.
Winnie and Dex were cute together, I did want a bit more drama (I think I read too much dark romance) but it was a nice small town romance read. I really enjoyed the scenes with Dex’s two girls they were cute!
I absolutely loved it from start to finish

The leads in this book are Dex, Winnie and can’t forget Dex’s two adorably funny daughters.
Dex is a 34 year old, single dad, ex-navy seal and current firefighting badAss! He is all the things you would expect.. Ruggedly handsome, rough and tough. When it comes to his daughters he loves them with all he has, he may swear like a sailor on leave and be a bit of a grump but I give him a 10!
Winnie is a 22 year old, hopeless romantic who gives her heart to easy because she believes in ‘happy ever afters’, however she has sworn off men at least lung enough to win a bet with her best friend.
Throw them both right next door to one another with only a wall separating and let the burning hot fun begin! These two have amazing chemistry but since a relationship isn't something either is looking for they must found another way to make it work.
I couldn’t get enough of this book, i could probably read it again straight away. It was emotional, cute, so funny and of course HOT. As simple as it is one of my favourite parts it Dex totally being bullied by his daughters, it’s 100% relatable. The whole book is written so beautifully and prefect.
Don’t get me wrong there was times I wanted to strangle a certain ex-navy seal but I still loved him!
Can these two over come everything and get their happy ever after, that of course Dex doesn’t believe in.
I highly recommend you read and find out ❤️🔥

Winnie was refreshing, she was a self proclaimed love junkie, after a few disastrous relationships she decides to swear off men for a while choosing to just focus on herself. That is until she gets an extremely hot new neighbour.
Dex is a broody ex Navy SEAL turned firefighter who moves in next door to Winnie, the last thing he wants is the girl next door getting under his skin. But that’s exactly what happens, and I was here for it. After one failed marriage Dex doesn’t believe in HEA but he’s about to get his.
“𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒇𝒖𝒏 𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕.” “𝑴𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒐.” “𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖.” 𝑺𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒍𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈. “𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒆𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓.” “𝑮𝒐𝒐𝒅. 𝑵𝒐𝒘 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒇𝒇 𝒎𝒚 𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐 𝒐𝒓 𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒆.”
Dex also happens to be a single dad to two adorable and hilarious little girls. Hallie and Luna stole the show at times with their unfiltered comments and hilarity.
“𝑨𝒔 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒔 𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆.”

I loved our MC’s in this story. Dex irritated me at times simply because he had his head stuck up his ass and couldn’t see what was in front of him.
Where as Winnie was a breath of fresh air. I adored her mantras about controlling her feelings - I did chuckle 😂 but she was such a ‘real’ h, I felt I could relate.
Special mention has to go to Dex’s gorgeous little girls. Without them this story would have been like every other age gap story I’ve read. These girls bought humour - they were so cute but super funny - and they softened Dex so we didn’t only ever see him as grumpy. He adored those girls and I think it’s safe to say if it weren’t for them, then Dex and Winnie would not have got their HEA. Children in stories don’t always work for me, but these girls absolutely stole the show.
A must read for any fan of contemporary romance!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Dex is my favourite kind of hero, grumpy and not willing to admit he has feelings to anyone.
Winnie was a breath of fresh air, real sunshine heroine who is a lover of love.
I loved their relationship development, the way they said the don’t love each other at the end of every night together had me swooning. The fact Dex is this big ex Navy SEAL turned current Firefighter who sews and brushes his woman’s hair? I fell hard.
Absolutely loved Luna and Hallie so much, especially how involved they were in the story. They had me laughing a lot at the bedside commentary to their Dad.
This was my first read by Melanie Harlow and won’t be my last, I’m looking forward to Ellie’s book next!
