Dex is s grumpy single dad that has tried marriage once and doesn't plan to ever go there again. Winnie has sworn off men for a year because she always falls in love too quickly, and the men are always jerks. Dex moves in next to Winnie and his 2 daughters instantly love her. Winnie and Dex start a no strings arrangement and both promise that no feelings will be involved.
This was my first read from Melanie Harlow, I was drawn in by the cover 🥵
It follows a second generation character from Cloverleigh Farms but it can be read as a standalone. Winnie’s parents are from the first book in the series.
It was a cute contemporary romance with an age gap, single dad and grumpy/sunshine trope.
Winnie is a hopeless romantic who has sworn off men for a year after a breakup because she falls in love too fast. She moves in next door to an older and very attractive Dex, who is a fire fighting single dad of two little girls. Dex has sworn off relationships after the breakdown of his marriage and no longer believes in love.
Winnie and Dex were cute together, I did want a bit more drama (I think I read too much dark romance) but it was a nice small town romance read. I really enjoyed the scenes with Dex’s two girls they were cute!
I was so excited to go back to Cloverleigh Farms and Ignite didn’t disappoint. We meet the grumpy firefighter, Dex Matthews. He’s 34 and an ex SEAL and also a single dad of two girls…. Cue the swoon, right?
Winnie is 22 years old and has always been addicted to love. She loves the idea of it and falls in love super fast. She just had a failed engagement so she’s sworn off men and falling in love for the foreseeable future thanks to a bet with her friend.
Dex and Winnie meet when Dex moves next-door to Winnie and their attraction is instant. Although they both fight it at the start, it’s undeniable and before they know it, they can’t resist each other anymore.
This is definitely in the grumpy/sunshine category which is one of my all time fave tropes. If you’ve read the rest of the Cloverleigh books then you’ll be able to see the parallels of Ignite and book number one, Irresistible, which is the book about Winnie’s parents…. I loved this so much and I loved the way the book mentioned them with humour surrounding it.
This was a super cute read with the spice thrown in. I really liked the way Winnie and Dex came together and Dex’s girls are hilarious and Dex is such a great dad. This book is pretty love angst, which I loved. I just needed a cute small town romance book and this hit the spot.
Winnie and Dex’s chemistry was great and I loved reading their story and seeing how they found a place in each others world.
If you’re looking for a cute grumpy/sunshine romance, then this one is for you!
4.5 stars!!! Grump/Sunshine age gap neighbour’s romance?! Yes please. Add in hot single dad firefighter, and I just found my newest book boyfriend.
This was my first book by Melanie and I didn’t realise it was apart of a series, which are all standalones, but now I need to read them all because I am in love! This book checked off so many of my boxes of what I love and was just beautiful written and held my attention!
Winnie loves love basically, and she also likes to ogle the new hot neighbour guy moving in next door! She just full of sunshine and happy and kind and thoughtful, I loved her!
Dex puts the G in grump haha. He’s stubborn, but also is wrapped around his little girls fingers. He doesn’t believe in happily ever afters and has lots of baggage. But oh so loveable, and *cough* really good dirty talker.
These two have an undeniable attraction for each other and they are 🔥🔥🥵😮💨. I loved them together. They were so much fun! And then bring in Dex’s little girls, they cracked me up!
Also it also sets up for the next book perfectly and has me dying for it!!
It was great to step back into the Cloverleigh Fields world once again. But I particularly loved that this book is a next generation story. There are quite a few similarities between Winnie & Dex’s story to Winnie’s parents but they are different enough in some major ways that it definitely isn’t the case of a rinse and repeat. I actually found that when comparisons were made it was done tongue in cheek which added a bit more humor to this romcom. There are plenty of laugh out loud moments that usually came from Dex’s two daughters but it was the romance between Dex and Winnie that was the absolute standout for me. Looking forward to reading more books in this world. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
