Jay is leaving his partner and their two sons. As the long night before his departure unfolds, he remembers the ups and downs of his relationship with Susan. In an unforgettable and often pitiless reflection of their time together, he analyses the agonies and the joys of trying to make a life with another person.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Incredibly boring ruminants from a selfish protagonist. Nothing actually happens in this story! He reflects on his relationship then leaves a note and walks out on his family. Absolutely nothing else happens.

compelling read

Storyline of a London first generation writer who is dissatisfied with life because instead of being young and carefree, he is married to a middle aged woman who is the mother of his kids. He compares her unfavorable with his younger girlfriend, but then again how can she compete with a twenty something year old who is childless and instead of preparing the kids dinner in the evening, is fully available. He is fully lucid and doesn't want his life to slip away and when he looks at his wife, he probably realizes that at his age he is probably more Homer Simpson than Russell Crowe in Gladiator (after all, his wife is four years younger than him). We can all recognize parts of ourselves in the writer, because after a certain age, we have all experienced some of his emotions. To be fair, his wife does seem a bit of a pain, but then I suppose it is not easy for her either. It is well written.

Indulgent, despite its brevity.

The tone and attitude of this book did not feel compassionate. A narrator and situation that was hard to sympathise with.

I can't give this 5 stars because I hated reading it. I'm forced to give it 4 stars because it's excellent. Perhaps best described as a difficult read but very worthwhile. Deeply moving and honest.

If you like stories about human relationships then this is a novel to read. Very descriptive writing, share the innermost world of what is perhaps common to many married people.

An insight into the lead up for the Man to leaving Family responsibilities or regression to a former life

Interesting story, about concealing emotions I thought, the main character appears immature,
He seems Sex fixated, not really experiencing deep love , rather a sorry life I thought.
