K L Slater creates unputdownable suspense in this collection of 3 psychological thrillers.

The first book, Blink, was my favourite. When a child goes missing everyone is a suspect but this story with its well-drawn cast of characters (some I sympathised with, others I loathed), kept me turning the pages to the end. I also enjoyed The Visitor, tense and twisty throughout. There is a clever backstory to this one where everyone is not who they seem. Closer was enthralling but hit a nerve. I found it traumatic at times because of my own past; a harrowing example of how a little girl’s self esteem is crushed by her father’s new partner and her utterly horrible daughter. Sadly, the ending didn’t quite work for me and seemed inconsistent with the prologue, a drowning accident in which a woman refers to a ‘daughter’ although this is not actually the case. That aside, this is a brilliant portrayal of a broken family and the complexities of new relationships.

All in all, these three stories had me hooked. K L Slater is undoubtably a very clever storyteller and one of my favourite authors this year.

As a compilation of the three books from this (new to me author) and having read on social media Blink was definitely worth a read, I took the plunge and bought the three together. True to form Blink was brilliant. A complete page turner and a great twist and warranted a 5*. The Visitor got a 4* as it was at times a little slow. Closer got a 3* as it was just a bit long winded and quite boring in places. I won't give up on this author as everyone has "off" days I'm sure. The ending for this was quite sudden and a tad "oh really, is that it?"
