4.0 out of 5 starsIf you read the one star reviews don't let them put you off this book
Reviewed in Australia on 21 May 2021
Now, I am a reader of one star reviews before I buy a book so did the same with this one. What I read there nearly put me off so I just wanted to address some of the things that were mentioned in those reviews.
1. If you don't like sex scenes don't read romance novels, this is a story about a woman who hires a male escort so I'm not sure what people were expecting. I know that there are the sweet genre Romance novels out there but I'm pretty sure that you can tell that this is definitely not one of those from the blurb so to criticise it for this is just ridiculous. That being said there was not nearly as much sex in the book as I thought there was going to be, yes there was a bit but it was in line with a lot of romance that I read and I read probably near to 200 books a year.
2. Several people mentioned Fifty Shades of Grey in their reviews which is the thing that actually nearly put me off reading this book. This book is in not related to 50 Shades of Grey in any way shape or form so completely disregard those reviews. If you are like me this is a good thing as in my personal opinion fifty shades is seriously overrated trash. Sorry if that offends anybody.
3. The last thing that more than one reviewer mentioned was about the author not having done her homework about Asperger's. If the reviewers had read about the author they would know that the author has Asperger's and for anyone who does know anything about it knows that it is called a spectrum for a reason. I don't think I need to say anything more about that.
So having gotten my grievances out of the way with the reviews I enjoyed this book very much and would recommend it .

Ill be honest when i say this bored me a lot, the plot was basic and kinda cringy at times but this book literally took me so long to finish, it was like a chore not a treat, ill admit the romace was a little cute but overall im a little disappointed because the hype was a lot, but still happy i read it.

As the description and actions of our female protagonist unfolded, I knew this author must have a great handle on autism. My teenage son has autism and the author nailed it over and over again with her own challenges (overstimulation, loud crowded spaces etc). Although it's different for different people, there are a load of commonalities and this book gave me real hope that my son, who is total adverse to being touched, might still be able to have a healthy relationship in his future if he can find someone with patience and understanding of his quirks. It was a great read and a very refreshing look at love between neurodiverse and neurotypical people.

A heartwarming story about love that accepts all faults. Gentle comedy, likeable characters and a sensitive male lead who holds more similarities with your usual rom com heroine. A great easy read. Loved it!

I had heard so much about this book, and when I saw it on sale at the bookstore, I couldn't pass the chance to snatch it up for myself. I finally got around to picking it up, and I'm so glad I did. I was hooked by this book right away.

I've never read a book before where one of the main characters is autistic. It adds a whole new and interesting level to the story, and really highlights the issues that people on the spectrum deal with in their everyday lives. Stella was a fascinating character and I really liked her.

Michael was a great character too, and whilst I hope that this book doesn't romanticise the escorting profession, I still liked the fact that he had a job such as he did, but was doing it for the specific reasons that he was. I mean, I guess that happens in real life too, but its easier to believe that people lead those kinds of lifestyles because they need money for drugs or gambling. Michael is completely different to that, and I really liked his personality underneath the exterior that he shows.

There were some interesting secondary characters in this book too. Some that I liked, and others that I didn't. I really loved watching Stella and Michael get to know each other, and thought that their story was interesting and it definitely had me captured from the start.

I definitely want to continue this series, and see where their lives take them.

After reading The Heart Principle recently, and absolutely loving it, I decided to pick up The Kiss Quotient and read it immediately. It was exactly what I felt like reading mid-week after a few busy days at work. The Kiss Quotient is a romance of sorts, a rom-com, and it contains a heavy amount of steamy sex scenes, probably even more so than The Heart Principle but it definitely has a lot more to it than just sex and laughs.
When it comes to economics and mathematics, Stella Lane is brilliant. Social skills, less so, but she is not unaware of this, and in a bid to improve her chances of success with dating and relationships, she hires an escort. A very attractive escort that reminds her of her favourite Korean TV star. The job she has for him? Teach her how to date, kiss, have sex, and be in a relationship. Despite his rules about seeing a client more than once, Michael has pressing financial concerns, so he agrees. And then the fun begins.
I loved both Stella and Michael, who were particularly well suited to each other. Miscommunication abounds as their involvement with each other becomes more entangled, but true love is in the air, and their relationship gradually becomes more than a physical experiment. This is unconventional romance, and it might not sit well with everyone, particularly the high sex content, but I really enjoyed it. Through these two novels, The Kiss Quotient and The Bride Test, Helen Hoang is making great inroads at deconstructing labels and chipping away at preconceived notions about Autism Spectrum Disorder. She is redefining the base line for romance, and I am very much in favour of it.

I need a moment after finishing this. God, I love this book! I love Stella - the protagonist, I love the different POV and how they switch so fluidly, I love Helens Writing style, I love the autistic rep,I love the Vietnamese family & culture, I love the steeaammmminess! *fans self*
This book made me smile so much, also made me nod in appreciation of the raunch, and it totally made me melt.

Hoang has created 2 fantastic characters that compliment each other wonderfully, neither are cliched or stale, they have lots going on for them to make them great 3 dimensional characters that you feel you know.
You’re on their team and you want them both to be happy! Stella isn’t portrayed as over naïve or innocent and dumb to what’s going on, she’s brilliant and funny and horny and strong and kind.
Michael doesn’t come across as a sap or boring. He’s got shit going on and he’s dealing with it, and he’s smart and kind and sexy and protective.

Honestly I could waffle for dayyyyys. But I won’t. I’ll just peer pressure you into reading it and then say ‘told you so’ when you say how much you love it!
I’m so glad a friend recommended this - and super impressed Ellie managed to gently and calmly tell me how good it was, because I’m crushing hard on this book 😭🥰

4.0 out of 5 stars Quirky but fun

This one was recommended to me a while ago, I downloaded it and it has been sat on my kindle for months 🤦‍♀️ Just last week, an author I follow mentioned she had read this recently and it was part of a group read! I figured I best get on with it and get it read then lol

I’m glad I did. I liked it. It’s slightly quirky but that makes sense considering what’s going on with Stella. Stella is independent and driven, she is attractive yet clueless and her ability to take life at face value gets her in to trouble on more than one occasion.

Michael is hot. He has a few dense moments and a few lightbulb moments. He’s sweet and funny, kind and generous. He’s great.

I loved the way they worked together and how both characters changed throughout the story, the story is well placed and flows smoothly. A solid four stars ❤
