When life with Jayni's violent-tempered father becomes too frightening to cope with, Jayni, her mum and her little brother Kenny are forced to escape in the middle of the night. Slipping out of the house unseen, travelling up to London by train and checking into a hotel – it's almost like playing an elaborate game. They even make up false identities to protect their secret, and Jayni becomes the glamorous-sounding Lola Rose. But when money runs out and reality bites, what will they do next?

Jayni was upset about her abusive life with her father, Jay. Until one particular night, her mother was severely injured and decided to run away. They altered their names, Kenny was Kendall, their mother is Victoria Luck and Jayni wanted a posh and elegant name, she settled on Lola Rose. This EBook is amazing and really reflects the book Cookie. With Jacqueline's signature writing and twisting humor, this will keep you VERY entertained.

My true opinion.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 July 2019Verified Purchase
In my opinion, I was loving the way Jacqueline Wilson always writes her books in increased grammar and the entertainment she has to offer is incredible! I simply loved every stroke of the page with my hands, and the writing inked into the pages, it's black words engraved on the same thin pages made me think twice about reading any over book. I was, in fact, in a other world. I normally read Murder Most Unladylike, but I think I have found the secret to any other book.
WARNING: THIS IS A SPOLIER PART
The storyline is based on a girl who is scared of sharks.
Jayni, a young girl who has always had a hard time trying to fit in the to the picture. Like every other Jacqueline Wilson book (apparently), she is quite poor and is a bit on the overweight side of things. Until her mum wins the lottery (well not the real thing, but she got ten thousand pounds which is a lot), Jayni is hopeless. Jayni's little brother, Kenny, is a fussy eater, his favorite food being a little red lolly. But that doesn't stop Jayni's mum bying whatever the children wanted. As soon as they got back though, they kept it a secret. Well, until mum blurts it out. Jayni's dad, who is a nasty man, is always punching the mother, so without telling you anything, you might just know. It was a hard one too, and also to go with that, he is terribly horrible to Jayni, pushing her to the ground. He slams the door, and runs away, probably thinking of getting quite drunk. And that's when Kenny, Jayni, and their mum (Nicki I think) pack and run away to a land of ups and downs. But I will not spill anything else, because I will ruin your chance to read it in your spare time. And don't tell me, 'Oh I have no spare time' because if you don't, you wouldn't be reading this.
A great read and my marks are based on my enjoyable read. Thank you and have a nice day,
L (aged 11)

Bad

I absolutely hated this book. Within the first few chapters of reading Jayni (What kind of name is that??) starts complaining about being fat and oh guess what? Jayni wants to be blonde!!! Now Jacqueline Wilson what is wrong with having mousy hair?? Ps: This is like in Cookie whwn Cookie said i want to be blonde like my mum!!!
Another aspect of what is bad about this book is that Nikki(The mum) has cancer but she is NOT trying to improve her health by smoking ! Now i know smoking is a bad habit (Sorry is i may of offended you ) but Nikki should NOT be doing that!!
Another bad thing about this book is that Nikki decides to get the dad (Jay) to come back after he was the one they where supposed to be running away from him!!! Also he was about to hit Nikki when he came back!
I aslo though that the ending was very rushed!
I will not be buying a Jacqueline Wilson book again!
Ps: Why is it in a Jacqueline Wilson book that the mum is always blonde and skinny??
The End

Lola Rose
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 May 2021Verified Purchase
I honestly did not like this book. It was well-written, since it's Jacqueline Wilson, but I thought the book in itself was just not very good.
Lola Rose is about a girl called Jayni, whose manupilative and abusive father regularly loses his temper and takes it out on her mum. Her mum puts up with it for a while, but when he starts on Jayni she decides enough is enough. She, Jayni and Jayni's little brother Kenny run away to London while her father is at the pub, and assume new identities. Jayni's mum Nikki becomes Victoria Luck, Kenny becomes Kendall Luck and Jayni becomes Lola Rose Luck. Jayni hopes that with her glamorous new name she can leave plain old Jayni behind forever.
What I don't like about JW's books is that the father is always either non-existent or abusive. Not one JW book for older readers have I read that has a good father in it. Em in Clean Break had a nice enough dad, but of course he left the family! I just think that JW could write at least one book with a nice dad, just to show that not all dads are bad!
Also, the majority of JW main characters have mousey hair or are overweight, and wish all the time to have blonde curly hair and blue eyes. This is not a good message. You should be happy with who you are, no matter what.
This book was also just horrible, I know JW's intention was to address cancer but she did it badly and it has a very odd ending. The book was also drawn-out and boring at times. JW is a good author but this book was not good at all, in my opinion. Kenny (or Kendall) was funny and cute and, along with Auntie Barbara, was the only good thing in the book. He and Auntie Barbara were very good and likeable characters and are the reason why I didn't rate this one star.
I don't really recommend Lola Rose, to be honest. A better Jacqueline Wilson book to read would be The Diamond Girls or maybe Lily Alone.
Just my opinion :)

My fave book EVER!!!😍

I 💜 this book because it has so much drama and different exiting parts!!! I think that it could be in proved by Jackie describing what it was like when they moved in to the pub at the end. (Sorry if that was a spoila!!!😮)
I think that the age rating should be around 11-14 as their is a bit of violence near the end. Over all I think that Jackie is still the best author to have lived on planet earth!!! I hope she carries on writing books for as long as she lives!!! She is a true inspiration to children all across the globe and I ADORE her work!!! Although I said it was my fave book... I also LOVE the hefty feather series!!!
I hope that this will pursued you to bye this book and read it!!! ( I myself have read it 5 times in the past few months!!!)
