Totally predictable lightweight romance

Vanessa is a now single mother of two boys and a dental assistant. Inspired by her glamorous romance writer heroine, she pens a romance featuring a typical alpha male doctor and a nurse who realises thar the patient on the operating table is receiving the heart of a loved one and who therefore comes over unprofessionally fainty, for which she’s excoriated by the doctor until he realises just what a fabulous person she is. Excerpts of the novel are typically excruciating. She sends it off to her hero’s publisher and gets a rejection. Imagine her surprise when her hero’s next book has an exceptionally similar plot. And characters. And dialogue. Enter good-hearted Dave, a local solicitor and coach of her son’s soccer team, who thinks she has a case. Enter also Marcus, high-flying IP barrister and recent ex of the glamorous author. A little vengeance is not beneath him. Spanners are thrown into the works with the various electronic disappearances of her manuscript. Suffice to say, Vanessa falls for Marcus, he’s a cad, she realises it’s Dave she really wants but he’s gone and paired up with another woman, etc. In a nice girls-can-be-ballsy-too scene, Vanessa sidelines Marcus and negotiates her own settlement. Bit hard to believe but okay. A recurring theme is the NZ pronunciation of Kiri, Vanessa’s sensible friend. Hence: dickhid. Days of Our Lives for the modern reader. Three stars is a bit generous, but if this kind of thing is your bag, you’ll appreciate it. The destruction of her mother’s myth-making around her father is the best part of the book because it has the most intense and meaningful emotional heft.

My wife loved Losing the Plot and talked me into reading it. I didn’t think it would be my thing but I loved it as much as she did. Losing the Plot is very funny and the characters feel real and believable. I read it in one afternoon, it was a real page turner. The story has a lot of twists and turns that kept me guessing and I could picture everything in my head. A great read. I highly recommend it.

This book had me goofy smiling and laughing out loud! Classic romantic comedy!!
I have to say that I absolutely adored this book! It was such a cute, cringeworthy, fun read.
Can this please be made into a movie?!! Preferably a Hemsworth in it!!

The main character, Vanessa, is awkward and sweet. I loved her interactions with her mother and her two sons. I did cringe at some scenes, but they are also the scenes that gave me a good laugh.
Throughout the book Vanessa is suing her idol, Charlotte Lancaster, for plagiarism, attempting to date and working through family problems, this ensures that hilarity and drama unfold.

Marcus Stafford is the mandatory romcom perfect man. He’s gorgeous, successful and ripped (See, perfect for a Hemsworth!). But, is he what he seems to be? Oh, Charlotte is also his ex. What could possibly go wrong! Haha.

Then there is the goofy, affable sidekick, Dave Rendall. His clothes aren’t right, he spills food on himself and he’s kind of a bumbling mess.

As most romcoms, this book is predictable and cliché. Nevertheless, it is such a funny, adorable read.
The author has done a fantastic job creating relatable characters, scenarios and family dramas.
This is Elizabeth Coleman’s debut novel and I really enjoyed her writing. The book is such a fun, easy read that hooks you in from the start! I will definitely be picking up all future books from this author.
I highly recommend this to everyone! Especially for lovers of romantic comedies & romance/ contemporary fiction.

Enjoyable and heart warming.

This is a fun story and an entertaining "read" or listen really. I played it as I travelled home on a long trip and the time just flew by. The author tells a funny and enjoyable tale with some deeper notes about love and friendship that really resonates in today's busy and often superficial world. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good read, with some laughs along the way, that is a page turner and is emotionally engaging. I look forward to the next book by this author.
