When an American journalist Emma seeks an interview with a renowned French perfumier Madame Angeline de Cadieux, she has no idea where it will lead, but she also feels a certain connection with the elderly lady.
The reader is transported back to WWII Paris, to the world of perfume and the atrocities of war.
This brilliantly written story brought tears to my eyes several times; however, the writer has also included romance and a subtle sense of humour.
I enjoyed every page of this book and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I got really into the novel to begin with but the last few chapters ruined it for me as the author seemed to rush to finish it skipping over events and confusing me with the story about her baby being taken by Berta the SS guard yet then given to US Army soldier by Luise. There was no development of the relationship between Emma and Ryker (not a very Irish name anyway and who wears silk suits these days…very 1980s). All in all what could have been a really good book turned out to be pretty awful

Wow, what a story brought to life by the clever writing. You might guess the ending before you get there but that is part of the experience of reading through each well put together page.
