This box set covers the fifth series of the 2004-2010 TV series in which some passengers of a plane crash find themselves stranded on a mysterious Island. The finale of season 4 showed that Jack and Kate both managed to make it off the island and in what seems a future scene, jack definitely wants to return. I guess the question is….Why?
There is good recap ABC which explains the story so far -in a dry humorous way. Quite engrossing from the start this maintains a steady pace as the new twist shows real world scenes as well as the usual flashbacks and current events as they happen.
The 17 episodes are held on 5 discs which are in individual slim-line cases within a stiff card outer carton. Disc 5 hold the final 2 episodes and a host of extras. All the disc open to a menu offering English and most northern European or Scandinavian languages, then goes to main menu offering play all, episodes, set-up and some extras. Rated as a 15 these discs do contain some graphic action violence and, there are more sexual themes than previous series.
Despite veering away from what seemed the main themes, this does show it’s not always good to get what you wish for as we learn even more about the new ‘Oceanic 6' and the Dharma Initiative, this still remains a good piece of ***** entertainment.

The greatest television series ever!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2009Verified Purchase
The X-Files use to be my favourite television series, I have every season on dvd, and honestly believed that nothing would ever replace it as my no 1 show; and then Lost came along and completely blew me away.
The first season was impressive and it has just gone from strength to strength. I doubted that it could get any better after the first season and wondered how the story could continue, but every season has been consistently good, and the way the story has been unfolding, has just been mind blowing.
Presumably you have already watched previous seasons of Lost, if you are reading this review; in which case, what are you waiting for?! If it hasn't captured your imagination already, then words fail me.
If however, you have never had the privilege to watch Lost, I would strongly suuggest that you watch the previous seasons before embarking on Season 5, as they put everything in to context. It might seem at the time that the producers are just making things up as they go along but everything fits together like a jigsaw puzzle.
In essence, the series is about a group of people who survive a plane crash on an island but it's not an ordinary island, it's practically invisible to the world and has unusual qualities, such as polar bears (in a practically tropical climate!) and the ability to heal wounds quickly. As well as the story that unfolds on the island, the survivors have flashbacks to their lives before arriving on the island and it seems that they are all connected in some way, with many of them unknowingly crossing paths with other survivors.
There are also a lot of 'main characters' in the show, it's difficult to choose a favourite as there are so many contenders. I can only describe the show as jaw dropping with some of the revelations. I can't articulate how brilliant this show is, it has to be watched!
In terms of Season 5 itself, it's a great season which provides a lot of answers! I was a little bit confused at the time it was on television, with all the time travel that goes on, but it all becomes clear after a while. It's going to be emotional when the last season airs in 2010 as I feel like I've been on this epic journey with the characters and I don't want it to end. Having said that, every season has been superb and I would hate for the producers to let the quality slide so let's hope season six ends with a bang!

Dead, undead and should-be dead

After series 4, this had run its course but they kept it going on life-support. Series 5 and 6 are produced with yet more characters from the dim past, or is that future ... and events still to occur happen after the present, or is that the past ... there's plenty of blood and gore, some pornography, violence ... people get killed but don't really die -- one warning, though, about an unsavoury couple who murder and rob a kindly old Hollywood producer (really ... ) and get buried alive ... some good acting but two stars is generous.

hmmm... Hope last season 6 is better

Hoping that the last season makes up for season 5. The plot has just got silly, random and irrelevant. What I thought where the main characters seem to be replaced by strangers, they don't look like they can speak their lines with conviction as they will start laughing. It should 've called 'confused' not lost. If you missed one episode you would not have a clue what is going on as the plot is off on so many tangents.

Season five comes along like a turning point in a adventure journey , a light in the dark , revelations , fantastic adventure , and philosophical questions about destiny and fate ,AND NO FRIGGING RIDICULOUS , USELESS , BORING( accept for DRUGGIES AND MANCUNIANS -CHARLIE PACE ) .
The acting is amazing , especially from Terry O`qin and sawyer character . The flashforwards and back is awesome and going back in time to the 70s with the losties being part of the dharma initiative is a blast . Its exciting , its philosophical and Kate was starting to become more attractive to me in light of her coming outta the comma in real life of dating that Mancunian hobbit , charlie pace . Fantastic !!
