The show was filmed in front of a live studio audience and the laughter is genuie. It was actually quite progressive for the 1950s with its Jim Crow laws, a real life married couple , one American the other cuban.
There's some great live music on the show, plenty of comedy lots of it relolving around contents and jokes between men v women.
There's also lots of focus on Lucy getting involved in music and often getting in trouble for it.
The show is a pretty honest and funny portrayal of marriage, so many modern sitcoms, Fraser, Seinfeld, Friends, Peepshow are about single people. Back in the 1950s America though the majority of people were married.
There's something very sweet, nostalgic and wholesome about this show comparing it with what we've got now. I expect its do with the times in which it was filmed. The black and white cinematography is great and the fact it was shot on 35mm film means they've been able to do a nice clean looking restoration here. The picture is free of grain and specs and flickering.
The show would often feature guest appearances too, the most famous being John Wayne who doesn't seem to mind poking fun at himself.

So all in all - you get lots for your money and great entertainment

I do have an issue with the internal packaging - the DVDs are bunched together with two stacked on each other in a distressing way.
As to why I gave this 5 - that's the series itself. This is a joy to watch. Even if it is 70 years old and the stories are slower than modern sitcoms, they are still hilarious and wonderful to watch.
Desi is funnier than I remember (when watching reruns as a kid in the 80s) and Lucy's over the top antics are great.
One BIG selling point is that this is a comedy you can watch with small kids - not like many sitcoms today. So good family watching.

Smart, inventive, charming and a true classic.
No comedy makes me laugh as much as this one. This was created two generations before my time, and I'm still a big fan.
Lucille Ball is a legendary comedian and at this show she was at her best.
Pure comedy, nothing vulgar at all. A lot of comedy's these days will use a lot of bad language to appear funny (most often at someones expense) but this has none of that and is more inventive than any modern comedy. Love it!
My only criticism is on the child actor playing little Ricky, it seems like he was only expected to memorize his lines and never to give a believable acting performance.
Other than that, this show is worth the watch.
