Joyous for gore fans
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 January 2022Verified Purchase
I love gory horror films from the 80s and 90s, particularly the tongue in cheek over the top ones like Reanimator, From Beyond, From Dusk Till Dawn and Braindead and I had no idea this would become like that as it progressed. Thankfully I knew nothing going in except that James Wan was directing so just on spec I assumed this was going to be more of his Conjuring style supernatural horror but I could not have been more wrong. Admittedly it starts off a bit like that but the way things played out was such a suprise. Until the big revelation comes it just seemed typical but in the last act all the questions and hints fell perfectly into place but left no time for a breath as it launched into a couple of incredible and over the top set pieces that were so superb I wanted to leap up and cheer, I just did not see it coming. You don't get films like this often, particulalry with a decent budget and I suspect someone with Wan's clout is one of the few people who could get to make one with such good production value. There is some superb camerawork and grusome practical effects and it's all done with infectious flare and gusto. Yes it's bonkers, knowingly so, and certainy not for the mainstream audience (which is a shame because it certainly breaks the mold) but if you like any of the films I mentioned above or any of the few more recent things that could come from the same family of fun and mayhem (Drag Me To Hell, Mandy, Invisible Man - directed by Wan's old SAW buddy Leigh Whannell) I think you'll enjoy this throwback. It's getting quite a few bad reviews but I think it has cult classic written all over it and I loved it.

Original idea

It's got a good original plot idea, a woman with a traumatic life as visions of murders as there happening.etc the first 45mins were a bit slow, the second half more entertaining ,had a good twist .certainly worth a watch. L,d personally give it 15 rating then 18, l did,nt think it that scary.

Good despite all the criticism.

Me and my family sat down and enjoyed it. Yes there was one or two silly bits but overall it's more than worth a look. Yes I have seen more scarier horrors but I have also seen incredibly worse. It is very much enjoyable and most viewers won't be disappointed .

A new take on horror
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 February 2022Verified Purchase
This is very gory and everything that a horror should be until near the end when all is revealed. To say anymore would be a big spoiler. Worth buying and the best horror for a long while.

Brilliant horror, starts off a bit slow and youre thinking,im just not getting this, but when,it bits, its right in the ass.Brilliant special effects creature and host? Some fantastic scenes of horror, shock and surprise. The cover of the box put me off this for months, now I wish I,d bought it in nlu ray. This is one of those horrors that only comes around every few years and a shock, like Jeepers Creepers was on its release. No spoilers.Buy it.Its great.
