Product description
Kit (Henry Golding, Crazy Rich Asians) returns to Ho Chi Minh City for the first time since he was six years old when his family fled the country in the aftermath of the Vietnam-American War. There he meets Lee, his estranged second cousin, Linh, a young Vietnamese student, and arranges an online date that turns into something more with Lewis (Parker Sawyers, Southside With You), an American clothing designer. Struggling to make sense of himself in a city he's no longer familiar with, he embarks on a personal journey across the country that opens up the possibility for friendship, love and happiness.

This is a movie about nothing, nothing happens, the main character's arch is undeveloped and uninteresting, the photography seems very nice, but the camera work is lazy and mediocre. Honestly, don't waste your time watching this movie. Henry Golding is very good delivering an stoic (and undeveloped) lead, but that's about it, all other performances fall short.

The story had potential but we kept waiting for the unspoken issues to be broached. Lovely cinematography & the characters were believable. Ended with nothing specific resolved…. Perhaps I missed the too subtle outcome???

This is a Gem. It is well done using real life issues and showing how Vietnam has moved on.

Very slow plot and finishes without a future

No central, linear story. The film is an exploration of the emotions of a returnee to Vietnam. The settings are excellent. Be prepared for a slow-moving, personal journey.

moving and reflective

A really well made reflective story about a gay man who is going back to his childhood. Some lovely scenes of Vietnam cities and countryside. Slow moving but worth sitting back and relaxing to.

Well done expose on the victims of the Viet Nam war
Reviewed in the United States on 30 January 2021Verified Purchase
If you are not into slow developing movies don't take this one on. The director takes a very somber issue and let's the viewer feel the weight of the long reaching horrors of Viet Nam through various lives that intersect. I felt the director was fantastic on how he approached creating the emotions of life. We see a young man returning to Viet Nam after 30 years with the ashes of his parents. We see a friend of that young man who survived the repatriation processes post-war. We see the son of an American Viet Nam vet whose father killed himself a few years earlier never being able to let go of the Viet Nam war. In a very abbreviated way we are left with the understanding of the victims of the war, victims even 30 years later.

Simply Delightful

Beautiful Cinematography. Nice calm mood to this story, the acting resounds in realness. The feel of the movie is well carried by the Soundtrack/Score. Henry Golding shines in this exploring dramatic role, very believable. Little Gem of a movie.
