Great fun! We got some really nice ones and a couple of rocks with only a small amount of crystal or non at all (not pictured). We got a giant one which I though would be a dud but it's one of the best! All only white crystals but when you read the info book that comes with it that is to be expected.I bought this as a school holiday activity as we had been looking at geodes and made some at home using egg shells Alum and laster and wanted to show what the real thing was like. Follow the instructions to make sure you get a nice cross section and not a just a bunch of pieces. Happy with my purchase and with how quickly it arrived.
Note the cardboard box is not the actual product , I've seen reviews which complained about the plain cardboard packaging, open the plain cardboard and the product is in a box as displayed.

Does not look anything like packaging! Extremely difficult to open, both adults tried and it took so many blows, sometimes they never opened because there was no opening on the inside just a ball of concrete and there is no way a kid could do it. Colours are crap, one purple one in the whole batch, the rest are white.

I normally check reviews before I buy things but didnt. Had I read the reviews I probably wouldnt have brought this. However if you have a child that sees beauty and interest in everyday rocks and pebbles then they will love this. My seven year old and four year old have so enjoyed this set. Perhaps I would have felt some disappointment with these myself but there was some varition in rock types. My kids find just a bit of marbling in a rock amazing so one little crystal and they are in awe. And we did get a couple of hollow, crystal filled beauties. You cant predict what you're going to get with a natural product so having realistic expectations is a good idea. The kids loved trying to smash these although lots required adult help (what fun!).

A fun kit that I did with my son & partner. The geodes were a reasonable size. I recommend wrapping in a old cloth, towel or something like that before using hammer to smash to avoid debris flying all over, also on a hard surface. We used kitchen floor as didn't want to damage our table. Don't go Hammer crazy either, I smashed the first geode to smitherines lol as got over zealous with jammer a couple of firm whacks and can check in-between to see how it's coming along. The book has some nice pictures & information. Each geode was different on the inside. My only complaint is i do find the kit quite pricey. It's a great kit but generally I think it could if been £2-£5 cheaper to make it more accessible & affordable price for those on lower incomes & budgets.

Kids enjoyed learning about geodes. I had less fun smashing rocks in the yard on a Saturday morning as I don't think it is suitable for kids. Some of them needed a fair old whack of a hammer to split and shards went everywhere ( one set of eye protective goggles included so if you are supervising the smashing you may want your own) All the geodes were white quartz which was a small bit of a let down.

I bought this for my 8 year old son for Christmas and he loved opening them. A few were extremely hard to open, but we got there in the end! These definitely need an adults help to score them and crack open. So, in that sense, it was a bit of a bummer for my son since he couldn't break them open on his own. I think we ended up with one solid rock, but the rest opened. My son was really hoping for a purple rock, but he only ended up with white. Overall, for being rocks, they're pricey, but I did find Amazon to be the cheapest.

My daughter had this for Christmas, and she loved it. She cleaned all of the rocks before opening them, so they're easier to display. She had a lot of fun opening the geodes (the included goggles were definitely required) - some we're much easier than others. I think the only slight disappointment was that all 10 seemed to be quartz, which while still beautiful, meant there wasn't much variety. Saying that, my daughter was delighted with the open geodes, as they are lovely.

These were bought as a gift for someone who likes rocks and gemstones. It was a really appreciated present most of the stones were the same unfortunately but it was still fun nonetheless, help will be required to break some of them open as some were really difficult to break!
