5.0 out of 5 starsWhat a Gem!

I bought the tumbler for my 7 year old but have had more fun than him. Running it near constant for a month has been no issue at all with the exception of the noise. The noise comes from the rocks tumbling, not the machine. I highly recommend building a box for it and filling lining the inside with foam to heap deaden the noise, then put it in a garage. That's what I did and I only hear it when I go in there. You get used to the noise but it is noticeably quiet when it gets switched off after a month. The safety features such as cut off it fingers are caught in the rollers are great, not that it is any concern as it is only the weight of the rocks. I highly recommend it but be prepared to find your own rocks and grit after.

It's tripping into fault mode and I cannot find a return address to get my refund. I am looking for a friend to assist me as return system is too difficult to work out. I guess I will be stuck with it till then.

My 11 year old loves this. The instructions are clear, she needed no help. It comes with a great selection of stones and additional parts to make keychains, necklaces etc. It’s not noisy - we have it tumbling in the garage, it’s no louder than a tumble dryer.

**updated review below--- we got shiny rocks!**

We bought this for our son as a 7th birthday gift. It's the perfect mid-range rock tumbler! It's sturdy and doesn't seem like it will break. It's been running now for over 2 weeks. It's definitely not silent, but with its rubber barrel, I suspect it's tougher and quieter than one with a plastic barrel. We keep it in the basement, but can see it'd be annoying if it was somewhere in the house. It has a handy feature where you can set it for up to 7 days and it'll tell you how many days are left- great for a kid! It includes a nice little instruction manual with information about the history of rock tumbling and description of the rocks included. It's a nice, reasonably-priced kit that includes everything you need to start tumbling rocks right away!

Update: now that we've completed a batch, I figured I'd add some info. We still think it's a nice kit! The little sieve that comes with the kit is very handy! Our final stones were smooth and lovely. However, they weren't really shiny. After some reading, we learned that there is a bit of an art to this and we need to be a little more meticulous in the cleaning of the tumbler between grits. Overall, though, our 7-year-old is quite pleased with the kit. We bought the jasper set and will try that next!

Update #2-- SHINY ROCKS!
We did a few batches and couldn't get shiny rocks and we lost interest. My kiddo is now almost 9 but just started becoming interested in geology a lot more. We decided to try again. After reading some about it, I decided to try a better brand of grit and IT WORKED! We bought Rock Tumbler Grit for 3 Pound Tumbler
by Professional Grade Rock Polishing Grit
And followed the instructions **carefully,** making sure to clean the tumbler tub very meticulously after each tumble. We also purchased tumbling pellets (Rock Tumbler "Sinking" Plastic Pellets / Beads Used For Final Polishing & Burnishing Stages) for the final two stages. The new grit had an additional stage which made all the difference. The jade set came out mostly lovely and shiny. They were not all consistently shiny, but I see promise! I added a picture using the flash to show off the polish. We're going to try the nee grit with a different set of stones now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little rock tumbler

Great little rock tumbler. Bought it for my 9 year old son and he loves it. Great present for our little geologists. I'll be using it when he isn't looking ;) Don't forget to get some extra grit. You will want to use it again once you finish the first set of rocks. Comes with some cool rocks to get you started and one set of each of the four grits. Definitely happy with this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING BUT WITH A CATCH
Reviewed in Canada on 24 May 2020

Got this for my 8 year old brother! He loves it specially because he loves collecting cool rocks and now he can turn them into gems! Its not complicated to use however the tumblr makes ALOT of noise and there are 5 steps to it and in each step u need let the machine run for a few days, so get ready for ALOT of noise. this thing makes way more noise then a dishwasher or washing machine. We will be done with the process in a few weeks I believe. Also u need to keep on buying the refills. The grit it comes with is only 1 time use

Everything was included in the box. It was a gift for my 8 year old granddaughter. Just plugged it in. It is a tad noisy so have placed in the basement. Will review again once all the steps are done. Looks to be good quality.
I have a question: came with a 15% off coupon for more rocks. Is says it is for amazon.com. I bought this through amazon.ca so can I still use it there?
