I read The River God quite a long time ago, following on with The Seventh Scroll and then through the years. I have enjoyed every one of Wilbur’s books, but the Egyptian series is something special! Thank you for brining some further enjoyment into my life.

"The New Kingdom" reunites us with Wilbur Smith's knowledgeable and action packed style. His hero survives many a scrape to arrive unscathed at the end of the book. It's a good read.

I have been a great fan of Wilbur smith for many years. My only complaint is the amount of violence he includes in most of stories. Never the less he is compulsive reading.

Another brilliant book about the Egypt series by Wilbur Smith. The meeting of Hui and Taita promises further reading enjoyment. Bring on the next book in the series

Loved the original River God series (ok, so The Quest was a little weird) but this is not even close to comparing to the others. Completely different style of writing, quite disjointed and does not sound like Wilbur Smith has contributed at all, except for the use of his character names and few copy and paste excerpts of conversations from the original River God book. Even Taita has a completely different personality which is unlikable. Have considered not finishing it a few times. Seems like a money grab riding the coat tails of a successful franchise.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

Wilbur Smith is my favorite writer of all times and I read and loved all his previous books. Unfortunately this book brings scarce new drama; a large part of its action had already been explored in his previous books of the Egyptian Series, and only seen here from a different perspective, with none of his wonderful story-telling style. The prose is dry and the characters lack complexity. Hui's personality is the only one which gets some attention, the rest are very basic and uninspiring. I'm sorry but I could only give it 3 stars!

2.0 out of 5 stars Dont believe Wilbur Smith wrote it.

this is apparently co written by Wilbur Smith and Mark Chadbourn, well I'm guessing but I have a feeling this was mostly Mr Chadbourns work. The plotline was jumbled, and the heros motives for doing anything were vague beyond any reality. Its plot line mirrored Call of the Raven: by Wilbur Smith and Corban Addison, hero has a difficult family background, loved by father above everything else, indifferent grandparent/mother, leave home to become 'villain on the run' , learn from their life changing experiences, become heroic fight the enemy, kill the enemy, save the day. Sorry Mr Smith, all becoming very much like Clive Cussler when he co-wrote books in his later years, formulaic , standard, and boring.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not written in Wilbur Smith's style

Readable but no where near as well written as Wilbur Smith's original books. I don't believe he had any hand in writing this at all. To me the storyline is contrived and unbelievable, especially Hui's ((where did that name come from and who could take it seriously?) So called escapes and rescue of his sister without encountering a single guard or even a slave!!
The characters are not believable and even Tanus and Taita lack credibility. It smacks of an inferior writer jumping on Wilber Smith's bandwagon!
