Terrific crime mystery leaves you guessing until the end. The continued development of the main characters and their back stories and everyday lives brings these stories to life. In this book DS Marie Evans scores a lot of the limelight along with supporting characters Laura Archer and Sam Page.

Said by Marie at the end of the story. That pretty much sums up how these detectives solve their cases. The are not smart or clever. Their results are pretty much the result of dumb luck,, or the work of their victims.

If you try to not think too much about the content, this is a pleasant read.

I’ve just finished the latest in the Jackman and Evans series. I binge read them one after the other and sincerely hope there will a Book 9 soon! The stories are complex and each book is quite different…nothing formulaic here! While there are some graphic descriptions of violence and death, which I don’t usually care for, the characters are so delightful and likable, and the camaraderie amongst the officers so appealing, I can get past the gore. And it isn’t at all gratuitous.

I have read the entire Jackman/Evans series and thoroughly enjoyed each book. The characters are refreshing and richly developed. The descriptive writing about the Fens makes it possible to visualize the area. Two complex storylines kept me reading all day.
