It manages to be wildly funny and richly emotional at the same time, proving that the Big Little Lies author still has a lot to offer her readers." --Bustle "As she did in Big Little Lies, Liane Moriarty writes compelling, realistic characters. Readers will devour Nine Perfect Strangers." --Real Simple "Moriarty is back with another page-turner." --TIME "Irresistible." --Entertainment Weekly "Liane Moriarty is a master of sustained tension." --Washington Post "Promises to be a lively page-turner." --Vogue "A cannily plotted, continually surprising, and frequently funny page-turner and a deeply satisfying thriller. Moriarty delivers yet another surefire winner." --Publishers Weekly, starred and boxed review "Liane Moriarty serves up laughs, thrills, surprises." --Associated Press "Each reveal is a delicious surprise...Nine Perfect Strangers is so well written and slyly constructed that it won't feel like enough." --Booklist "This latest work from the author of Big Little Lies makes us cower, laugh, reflect, cry, and fall in love right alongside the characters." --Family Circle "Can't wait for Season 2 of Big Little Lies? Satisfy your craving with Moriarty's new novel. At a remote health resort, nine people gather, eager for change. Despite the luxurious new-age comforts that surround them, each realizes that the next 10 days will be tougher than they could ever imagine. Things may not be what they seem in this addictive read." --Observer "The wildly popular Big Little Lies author is back with another irresistible story that's both suspenseful and surprisingly funny." --AARP's The Girlfriend "No one writes about the minutiae of women's lives with quite as much insight and pull as Moriarty, who wrote Big Little Lies, and yet again her slow-burning plotting leaves you gasping at the very end. I'm jealous of anyone who hasn't read this yet." --Grazia (UK) "Liane Moriarty is simply unparalleled at infusing flawed characters with humor and heartbreak. Her singular brand of storytelling was most recently showcased when her bestselling novel Big Little Lies was made into an Emmy-winning HBO miniseries. Nine Perfect Strangers is a worthy follow-up, offering an irresistible take on our wellness-obsessed culture, where the weirder the treatment, the better." --BookPage "Nine Perfect Strangers has everything I look for in a Moriarty novel: colorful, relatable characters and a page-turning narrative infused with humor and warmth...a wise, wonderfully immersive read." --Augusta Chronicle "Readers and movie stars alike cannot get enough of Moriarty and her addictive novels, which explore the secrets of suburbia with wit, empathy, and enough plot twists to have Alfred Hitchcock applauding from the grave." --San Diego Union-Tribune "Liane Moriarty is a serious talent...[She] paints a picture with color, sound, aroma, mood, and fragments of the characters' inner monologues, telling us their stories in quick details while the transformation goes off the rails." --News & Observer "Liane Moriarty seamlessly leads the reader through an unpredictable maze of struggles with love, loss, and understanding. Her pacing, character development, and knack for packing a surprise punch will keep readers engaging in literary therapy by turning the pages late into the night." --Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Praise for Liane Moriarty's Novels: "Funny and scary." --Stephen King

I love that literally Nine Strangers come together at a wellness resort... however as it’s a Liane Moriarty creation, there's a heap of secrets waiting to be revealed and unlike her other reads this was funny!
The premise is so unique, literally nine strangers head off to a health resort, hoping to return home different people. Set in Australia, Tranquillem House is a health and wellness resort that many clients claim transformed their lives. The latest batch of arrivals get considerably more than the diet, light exercise, therapy and spa treatments they had signed up for...
There is plenty of sly humour and wit in Moriarty's story and I just simply can’t say much more without spoilers... however I have to say made me think twice about trying a health retreat!
This is a well wrought satire of health farms. The main character is a failing menopausal romance writer. This allows the story to have a full blown emotional tinge. The rest of the characters are stereotypes of perfection with failings as in a Greek tragedy. Even to the rescue.
I do not have a reason for the number of people being nine except it works. As does this book on many levels.
Each of them are looking for the kind of break that will provide all the necessary requirements for the ultimate rest and relaxation package, with no pressure to do anything other than heal and detox.
Each in turn discovers that an idyllic place in the country called Tranquillum House Health Resort has a ten day package which offers everything they hope for and more, from guided meditations and mindfulness, healthy meals, spa, massage, hiking and much more.
Tranquillum House promises to change their lives in ten days.
With relaxation and healing being the main focus of their luxury pamper offer, these nine strangers make their reservations with eager anticipation.
They are all about to embark on a journey which promises to change their lives in ways they could never imagine possible.
Although remote, being several hours drive from the city, initial impressions of Tranquillum House are positive. The house itself being a big beautifully appointed old country home on many acres with plush amenities and stunning views across the countryside. Everything is designed to make for a totally restful and relaxing stay.
Each guest in turn is suitably impressed with the potential of the next ten days spent here.
They all understand that they will be asked to participate in certain activities, such as meditation, yoga and possibly some fasting and so on..so when they are asked to surrender all of their electronic devices such as phones, laptops etc. they are a little resistant to the idea of temporarily having no communication with the outside world. However, they agree that it might be rewarding to have no interruptions to their peace for a short time.
Little do they know just how challenging the next ten days will be.
This story felt like the climb on a roller coaster, where you ascend slowly to the top, taking in the views and atmosphere on the way up, and then teetering on the top for some time before taking that inevitable plunge.
Is it all just a test of their commitment to this journey, or is it something more sinister? Are they all being held captive…or just captivated?
The story took some surprising twists and turns which this reader was not expecting at all, and didn’t guess at. All in all it was a very compelling read which was hard to put down.
Soon to be released as a television series, I decided to read read the book first, and am of the opinion now that it will make for good viewing. It will be interesting to see how far (if at all) they deviate from the original script.
Filmed on location at an actual Spa in beautiful Byron Bay in New South Wales, Australia, it is made by the same people that brought Big Little Lies to the big screen…which I thought was brilliant…this also looks promising and I look forward to watching.

It reads like a v v weak Agatha Christie. The characters are so obvious I almost predicted everybody's background and then as the events unfolded I began to laugh at it. How ridiculous and forced the health resort was and the character of Masha was almost comic.
Sorry Ms Moriarty.....' Can do better'
