I've played most of the past Metroid games, but I recognise that this game was designed with newcomers in mind — and both groups will have a blast.
An overall amazing Metroidvania experience that proves why the Metroid series was capable of kickstarting a genre. You don't need to have played the older instalments to enjoy it, as the game opens with a recap of the past few games. Movement and controls are extremely fluid and satisfying, and the Switch hardware allows for some cutscenes and sequences that are just a spectacle to behold. There's nothing really to complain about, because it's the best possible modern rendition of the Metroid format we could've got.
TLDR:
Graphics: crisp and detailed.
Story: a satisfying twist and ending to this arc spanning 35 years.
Gameplay: satisfying and responsive (not super floaty and slow like the older instalments)
I recommend this to all Switch owners.
(PS. I saw another review saying that the sounds from the game alarmed their dog — this was not true in my case, and I own two dogs. Of course, that could just be an anomaly, but there are no sounds that personally disturbed me or my pets.)
