Here’s what some readers have said about “Off Kilter:”
Customer Reviews:
“This was one of the best new author books that I have read in a long time. The plot kept twisting and turning and kept you on the edge of your seat.” - Marcia
“Great book! Lots of action and adventure. Great plot and characters. Couldn't put it down.” – atabarac
“I loved this fast paced action adventure. It is well written with great characters. The story line is compelling and the action is like a roller coaster of excitement. The best thing of all though is that there is no swearing or unnecessary illicit sex. It takes talent to write a good story without extra garbage and Glen Robins has done it.” - MK
First, tragedy strikes.
Next, the enemy targets him.
Then, he’s framed.
Now, he’s on the run.
Collin Cook’s life gets turned upside down when his family is killed in an accident. A large settlement is coming while Collin is still reeling, but so is the nefarious Pho Nam Penh, who is hell-bent on destroying the world’s economy. Penh locks in on Collin as an easy target and his settlement as funding for his terrorist plot.
After Penh frames him, Collin has to stay ahead of Penh’s henchmen, Interpol, and the FBI. With the help of his lifelong friend and NSA cyber-guru, Lukas Mueller, Collin must stay alive and free long enough to save the world from Penh’s devious scheme.
Can this ordinary man, untrained and inexperienced, outwit a determined foe, escape the incessant pursuit of law enforcement, and keep himself from mental collapse?
In the first installment of the action-packed “Off” Series, Glen Robins takes you on a whirlwind adventure with the fractured Collin Cook as he navigates the dangerous maze of economic cyber warfare. And he’ll do it without the graphic language or gratuitous scenes so prevalent in today’s thrillers.
If you’re a fan of Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, or Tim Tigner’s Kyle Achilles, with a twist of Sylvia Nasar’s “A Beautiful Mind,” you will love Collin Cook and his adventures.

About the author

Glen Robins believes thrillers can and should be fun, fast-paced, and clean. Why ruin a good story with profanity and unnecessary salaciousness. After all, why write something he wouldn't want his own children to read? He writes the kind of books he likes to read with real-life characters that you would want to hang out with and compelling, plausible storylines that capture your imagination and keep your interest.

One of the best adventure novels ever.

The plot disappoints. It consists merely in one long chase round the world, with the hero, Collin, inevitably escaping with seconds to spare each time his pursuers catch up with him. After a while I started to skim-read these sequences, as there was little to hold my attention. When I finally got to the end of this overly long book, there came the biggest disappointment of all: there’s no resolution. The chase continues through another two books.
The writing disappoints. Good writing draws the reader in, in a seemingly effortless way. It’s not effortless at all, of course; it’s the result of careful and constant revision, so that the reader isn’t aware of the hard work that’s gone into it. Not so with Off Kilter. The style is laboured and self-conscious, and the dialogue is particularly poor: wordy and unrealistic. Real people rarely talk in lengthy paragraphs, or sound like characters in a 1950s B movie.
The characterisation disappoints. Collin, the main protagonist, just doesn’t add up. He has all the makings of an espionage agent. He is a master of disguise. He has a flair for languages: he can speak perfect German and Spanish, and do a convincing English accent. He’s a good cook. He is fit and agile, and has amazing powers of recovery from injury. He’s a scuba diver. Despite all this talent, we are told that he was unable to succeed as a salesman, and he goes into emotional meltdown every time a crisis looms, but yet he muddles through, even though any security official would spot him a mile off.
I shan’t be reading any more books by Mr Robins, I’m afraid.

And you really shouldn't use 1950s Shepperton Studios films as a dialogue source. We Brits don't talk like that anymore!

Or if you must...
A painful read. Irritating, unrealistic. Characters indistinguishable.
I read to the end except there was no end. Sorry but I couldn't do another - much too painful.
But there are positives - read Stephen king "about writing", don't quit, don't take comments personally. There is potential there. Study the art from the master.
Someone maybe SK said we all need to write a million words or ten novels before we have a reasonable skill built'.
Time, practice and seeking critical review will bring rewards in time as will reading, reading and reading not to mention reading as a writer i.e. With a critical eye on characterisation, plot, economy of language.

Looking forward to continuing it, in Off Course and Off Guard. Thank you Mr. Robins.
