Hilarious first book in the Oi! Series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 February 2018Verified Purchase
Kes Gray and Jim Field make such a great team in the Oi! series of books. This first book focuses on the Cat explaining the rules to the Frog about what things different animals can sit on. The variety of animals covered and what they can sit on is laugh out loud funny e.g. Fleas sitting on peas and Puffins sitting on muffins. The rhyming within the book means that young children can quickly start to predict and / or remember what's coming next and my son absolutely loves shouting them out before I read them. Jim Field's illustrations are vibrant and the characters of the Frog, Dog and Cat really come through in their facial expressions. I would highly recommend this book and the others in the series.

Still my favourite (and those around me) from the 'Oi!' series, to date

From the back cover of the paperback version ~ 2015/Hodder & Stoughton (image below refers):
🐱 ‘Cats sit on mats, hares sit on chairs, mules sit on stools and gophers sit on sofas, but Frog does not want to sit on a log! 🐸
From the award-winning KES GRAY and the winner of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, JIM FIELD.
A hilarious rhyming tale about a frog who discovers that all animals have their special places to sit!’
ooOoo
Measuring around 24.5 cm square, the shiny finish card cover is hard to miss in a sunny yellow background, with frog apparently in his designated place...on a log...where else?
Well, this is not just any old frog...this is one who begs to question as it turns out, with a twist at the end that is largely unexpected, for most!
The book begins with the opportunity to claim ownership on the inside cover page.
Across the colourful, matte finish, double page spreads we meet a variety of animals, all with short rhymes that stick in the mind.
We start with Cat, the ‘place’ designator…
Naturally in a book of this kind, the smart illustrations have more in them than first meets the eye, offering scope for further discussion, e.g. facial expressions or the headlines on the rather dapper looking hare's newspaper (image below refers).
The accompanying text, which includes lots of speech & a repeat element, is clear throughout; often ENHANCED at times FOR EFFECT!

My almost 6 year old loves this book.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 July 2019Verified Purchase
Bought this in the 2 books for £7 deal. I bought it for my 5 year old Son who turns 6 this month. When I first looked at it I did think that it might be boring or not funny enough for him & that it was more for smaller children but boy I was so wrong, he thinks it's hilarious & it's probably his favourite book now, the rhyming & repetitiveness is always great for kids, he absolutely loves reading along with me & wants me to read it most nights, he knows most of the words now & he absolutely loves the ending, he likes to read the last 2 pages himself, he's always saying "what do dogs sit on? I thought you would never ask, dogs sit on.... HELP!" Lol, this bit is really amusing for him.
A great buy & I would definitely recommend for kids from babies up to around my Sons age. It's a good length too, not too short.
We'll be buying the others in the series soon too, I actually might get him them for his birthday.

And what a fantastic pairing: the hilarious conversation between the bossy know-it-all ...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 August 2016Verified Purchase
This lively book pairs up the multi award-winning Kes Gray (author of Eat Your Peas and the Daisy books) and the equally prolific award-holding Jim Field (illustrator of The Parent Agency and The Lion Inside). And what a fantastic pairing: the hilarious conversation between the bossy know-it-all cat and the mildly peeved frog perfectly match the bright and comic illustrations.
It all begins when Cat dramatically shouts, “Oi Frog! Sit on a log!”, but Frog doesn’t really want to sit on a log, so he questions the convention. Cat purrs forth her wisdom (incidentally you can attribute your own genders to the characters, or ignore!) by telling Frog what objects different animals should sit on. Cat’s list goes on and on, with Frog querying how comfortable some of these suggestions are. It all ends with a hilarious twist, which I for one did not see coming!
I first came across this book at my local library. I read it to my three year old, and she immediately demanded that I re-read it to her. On the 5th re-read I had to call my husband for reinforcement (in need of refreshment!), and he read it another couple of times to her. That has never happened before, so I think that’s the biggest accolade we can give this book! Of course, we now have our own copy, and I really genuinely do think this is a future classic that will stand the test of time.
As a parent and teacher, I found it very entertaining myself, and am pretty sure Year 1 teachers would love this book as a fun antidote to phonics drills!
Happy reading!

Ok Frog will make children (and adults) of any age giggle
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 August 2018Verified Purchase
We love this book.
My husband is currently reading it for the first time and giggling like a 5 year old!!
Language is brilliant, the whole book is so simple yet imaginative and fantastically funny!!
My 4 year old daughter will really enjoy it (if my husband can read it aloud to her through his giggles) she loves rhyming books and trying to guess what’s coming next.
Would highly recommend this book, we also bought Oi dog! Oi Cat! too.
The illustrations are bold and eye catching.
