4.0 out of 5 starsFast and flawless
Reviewed in Australia on 10 August 2020
I bought this to replace a Belkin Wemo smart plug. The Wemo would be slow to respond to commands, would occasionally drop off the network and I would often get "Device isn't responding" when used with Alexa (but it would always switch on when asked to the second time). I also wanted to be able to pair it with a Hue sensor without using IFTTT.

The Hue smart plug responds very quickly to the sensor and voice commands via Alexa, and so far I've had no issues with it losing its connection or failing to respond to my voice commands via Alexa. It's not as bulky as the Wemo, but still impedes access to any socket next to it (see photo).

One disadvantage compared to the Wemo plug is that it doesn't monitor power usage.

Would be an easy 5 stars if the form factor was smaller and it had power monitoring.

1.0 out of 5 starsMisleading product

This plug is not recognised by Hue as a plug. Only recognises it as a lamp no matter how much you try to change it.
At $55.00 it is overpriced. Not only that it maximum amp is 10 amp and all says not to use on any cooking or home appliances. E.g kettles , toaster.
Absolutel rubbish

3.0 out of 5 stars It takes over from existing settings which is a pain
Reviewed in Australia on 10 September 2019

Overall it is a good product and works pretty well however I have one problem with it, if you are using it in a room where you have already turned the light on the when you move around the sensor takes control of the light and turns it off after what ever time you have set on the Alexa / Hue app. In this day of IFTTT I would have expected that if the light was already on then the movement sensor would not take over or at a minimum give you an option in the setup as to which has priority you or the movement sensor.

It would be great for a passage or stairs etc. but it is a pain in a bedroom or lounge where you would like the lights to turn on when you walk in but don't want them turned off when ever you move if you are already in the room.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Impressed

I have been looking at these for a while, and took the plunge on Prime Day for a good price. this little beauty is awesome.
Small with a magnetic base to fit on a small bracket included, and runs on 2 x AAA batteries. the instructions say they will last for 2 years, so I will have to wait to find out :) Piece of cake to setup and seems to work reliably 100% off the time so far. I think I need more of these now... I will have to wait till they are on special again.
Other reviewers talk about a temperature sensor and lux sensor in the unit, it is not documented anywhere but yes they exist as long as you are using Apple Home. I am using Alexa and these sensors cannot be accessed as yet
Great value

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for an intruder alert!

I don't use the location stuff on my phone for the Hue app. I try to conserve battery wherever I can. So, the best way for me to have the entry light in my flat go on when I came in or am leaving was a motion detector. I have a switch it is connected to, but it is at the end of the very dark entry hall. So, this detector is perfect for coming home, or when friends show up I know when the door is opened because the light goes on. It was a little too sensitive and would turn on every time I went into the kitchen, so I just created a small deflector to limit the range of the motion detector. I love the convenience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good but suggest for indoors only
Reviewed in Australia on 12 July 2021

This sensor is a bit weak compared to the hue outdoor sensor. i have two carports, one with the hue outdoor and one with the hue indoor. I find the indoor one only registers within 3 metres and needs a strong wifi signal otherwise can drop out like 10% of the times. Hue indoor settings are adjusted to the highest sensitivity and still only really picks up to 3m. Whereas the hue outdoor sensor picks up more than 6 metres away on the lowest sensitivity. It still works well outdoors but under the roof of the carport so not exposed to any rain etc. the battery seems to last forever its been more than a few months now and not beeding it changed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Installation using the Philips Hue app was too easy for words - it even asks you which light ...
Reviewed in Australia on 24 May 2018

I tried one of these out and it worked so well I've bought another half dozen. It wasn't obvious at first but these sensors actually measure 3 values - motion, light luminance (lux), and temperature (celsius). By measuring the luminance the Philips Hue app cleverly only turns on lights when there is motion *and* it's night time. Installation using the Philips Hue app was too easy for words - it even asks you which light to control and sets up all the triggers and values, so it just worked. As a bonus I now also have the temperature of the room on my iPhone.

The lights on my stairs and in the entrance now turn on automatically. No more fumbling for light switches in the dark while carrying bags. But didn't have to pay an electrician $$$ to install, just stuck one of these to the nearby wall using the magnetic attachment.

Also works great in the Elgato Eve app and Apple Home app.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works pretty well, but let down by the software
Reviewed in Australia on 17 March 2020

The sensor is pretty good at what it does. It can't see through transparent glass, which is annoying, but probably to be expected for PIR sensors in general. The software is ok. The sensor sometimes loses the hub for a few minutes (a real pain when the sensor is turning lights on automatically based on movement), and the app is pretty badly laid out (you have to go into device setup just to toggle on/off the sensor?). But overall, a pretty decent little device for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple to setup and works perfectly

Great price (if on sale), definitely one of the first thing you should get if you want to start off a smart home.
I set it up for night time getting up (combined with a Philips dimmable light bulb) so I don't wake my wife up with a bright light or trip over things and fall (which also wakes her up).
Settings in the app works great for me, highly recommend

5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly paired to my echo plus 2 and with alexa routines
Reviewed in Australia on 11 August 2021

Saw a youtube instruction video video about pairing this directly with my Echo Plus 2 unit, rather than my Hue Hub. Paired seamlessly and now turns on multiple lights when I walk down the stairs, and then turns them off when no motion is detected for the time I set. Love it, works seamlessly, they turn on every time - great unit to add to the smart home setup. Recommend! Little on the pricey side, but given how seamless it works - Hue stuff is very reliable - well worth it and now have three of them setup.

5.0 out of 5 stars Are we getting lazy? No we’re getting smarter.

You would wonder why this is necessary when you could just turn on the switch? We love it. We have it in a hallway that benefits from lighting when you need to get to the bathroom. No more stumbling in the dark. Control over lux setting is fantastic and simply to be able to remotely view temperature in room where sensor is located. I strongly recommend this product for convenience and safety.

5.0 out of 5 stars Performs well and activates lights though has some flaws in certain situations
Reviewed in Australia on 27 June 2019

The motion sensor is very useful to me as I set them up for my grandparents as they had past falls , the sensor works well most of the time though struggles if the internet is being used ie doesn’t activate or is delayed , I would much rather see it be done locally so it always functioned though would definitely recommend them
