4.0 out of 5 starsFast and flawless
Reviewed in Australia on 10 August 2020
I bought this to replace a Belkin Wemo smart plug. The Wemo would be slow to respond to commands, would occasionally drop off the network and I would often get "Device isn't responding" when used with Alexa (but it would always switch on when asked to the second time). I also wanted to be able to pair it with a Hue sensor without using IFTTT.

The Hue smart plug responds very quickly to the sensor and voice commands via Alexa, and so far I've had no issues with it losing its connection or failing to respond to my voice commands via Alexa. It's not as bulky as the Wemo, but still impedes access to any socket next to it (see photo).

One disadvantage compared to the Wemo plug is that it doesn't monitor power usage.

Would be an easy 5 stars if the form factor was smaller and it had power monitoring.

1.0 out of 5 starsMisleading product
Reviewed in Australia on 15 April 2021
This plug is not recognised by Hue as a plug. Only recognises it as a lamp no matter how much you try to change it.
At $55.00 it is overpriced. Not only that it maximum amp is 10 amp and all says not to use on any cooking or home appliances. E.g kettles , toaster.
Absolutel rubbish

3.0 out of 5 stars It takes over from existing settings which is a pain

Overall it is a good product and works pretty well however I have one problem with it, if you are using it in a room where you have already turned the light on the when you move around the sensor takes control of the light and turns it off after what ever time you have set on the Alexa / Hue app. In this day of IFTTT I would have expected that if the light was already on then the movement sensor would not take over or at a minimum give you an option in the setup as to which has priority you or the movement sensor.

It would be great for a passage or stairs etc. but it is a pain in a bedroom or lounge where you would like the lights to turn on when you walk in but don't want them turned off when ever you move if you are already in the room.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works as intended, but would not buy another one.

While useful, the fact that it only allows one action for each button is not ideal. That is, each button can be a scene or a state, but not cycle through and you will need another button for off state. The other Philips switch is more practical, unless you need a battery free alternative.

UPDATE: You can modified the operation of the device using Philips developer kit, API commands and JSON.... if that made sense to you, then you will find altering the commands so that a single button pressed once turns on, pressed again turns off - this way you can have this remote control multiple rooms, even one button for on/off the entire setup.
If not, then you will either have to stick with the basic function or look at alternative app to control your Philips Hue setup that allows customised buttons - you will have to pay for this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Impressed

I have been looking at these for a while, and took the plunge on Prime Day for a good price. this little beauty is awesome.
Small with a magnetic base to fit on a small bracket included, and runs on 2 x AAA batteries. the instructions say they will last for 2 years, so I will have to wait to find out :) Piece of cake to setup and seems to work reliably 100% off the time so far. I think I need more of these now... I will have to wait till they are on special again.
Other reviewers talk about a temperature sensor and lux sensor in the unit, it is not documented anywhere but yes they exist as long as you are using Apple Home. I am using Alexa and these sensors cannot be accessed as yet
Great value

5.0 out of 5 stars You need it for a hue environment

The bridge by itself isn't really anything by itself but if you're going into the hue ecosystem you need one of these to really use them. For example you need the bridge to talk to the lights for your phone (using the hue app) and control the lights and setup actions.

The bridge works well and it's kind of a set it up and forget about it.

Very easy to setup, I use this to control a Side Lamp with Philip Hue bulb in my Kids room, when the wake up or get off there bed the light will come on. I have set it up to night light mode, so when they move or wake up a soft light come on, enough for them not to bump in to other furniture in the room.

Really easy to setup and use. Detection works great. Is great for places like bathrooms but would not recommend for bedroom because you are lying in bed reading the sensor will turn the lights off.

Incredibly easy to setup and use. I'm just getting into Smart Lighting thanks to Alexa, and it's still a but of a novelty, but I can see the potential to setup my whole house this way. Look out!
