4.0 out of 5 starsFast and flawless
Reviewed in Australia on 10 August 2020
I bought this to replace a Belkin Wemo smart plug. The Wemo would be slow to respond to commands, would occasionally drop off the network and I would often get "Device isn't responding" when used with Alexa (but it would always switch on when asked to the second time). I also wanted to be able to pair it with a Hue sensor without using IFTTT.

The Hue smart plug responds very quickly to the sensor and voice commands via Alexa, and so far I've had no issues with it losing its connection or failing to respond to my voice commands via Alexa. It's not as bulky as the Wemo, but still impedes access to any socket next to it (see photo).

One disadvantage compared to the Wemo plug is that it doesn't monitor power usage.

Would be an easy 5 stars if the form factor was smaller and it had power monitoring.

This plug is not recognised by Hue as a plug. Only recognises it as a lamp no matter how much you try to change it.
At $55.00 it is overpriced. Not only that it maximum amp is 10 amp and all says not to use on any cooking or home appliances. E.g kettles , toaster.
Absolutel rubbish

3.0 out of 5 stars It works, but It s a bit overpriced

I wont give this product the highest score mainly because I truly believe this should ve come with the light bars, and NOT sold separately. The light bars are expensive already. I purchased them just to find a big surprise...They don t work unless you purchase this bridge device. DOn't take me wrong. THe device does its job, but just a bit unhappy due to the fact they mention in little font you need this device. I wonder how many people purchased the light bars just to realise they had to spend almost $100 extra dollars to get them to work?

3.0 out of 5 stars It takes over from existing settings which is a pain

Overall it is a good product and works pretty well however I have one problem with it, if you are using it in a room where you have already turned the light on the when you move around the sensor takes control of the light and turns it off after what ever time you have set on the Alexa / Hue app. In this day of IFTTT I would have expected that if the light was already on then the movement sensor would not take over or at a minimum give you an option in the setup as to which has priority you or the movement sensor.

It would be great for a passage or stairs etc. but it is a pain in a bedroom or lounge where you would like the lights to turn on when you walk in but don't want them turned off when ever you move if you are already in the room.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works as intended, but would not buy another one.

While useful, the fact that it only allows one action for each button is not ideal. That is, each button can be a scene or a state, but not cycle through and you will need another button for off state. The other Philips switch is more practical, unless you need a battery free alternative.

UPDATE: You can modified the operation of the device using Philips developer kit, API commands and JSON.... if that made sense to you, then you will find altering the commands so that a single button pressed once turns on, pressed again turns off - this way you can have this remote control multiple rooms, even one button for on/off the entire setup.
If not, then you will either have to stick with the basic function or look at alternative app to control your Philips Hue setup that allows customised buttons - you will have to pay for this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hue bridge makes sense but I would have loved a better experience with it
Reviewed in Australia on 6 July 2018

The Hue bridge was a painful device to get right as I had installed my globes in the ceilings as the bridge was out of stock at the time but it is required for harmony support

So having to get ladders and unscrew 15 lights was a frustrating process that would be solved with wifi/network discovery or storing that data in the Alexa app as an example

I have been having a few issues with connecting to certain lights but it is handy to have

2.0 out of 5 stars Homekit integration has problems and phillips wont fix it
Reviewed in Australia on 10 January 2020
Style Name: Dimmer SwitchVerified Purchase
I have five of these switches along with apple homekit and LIFX bulbs, mostly it works well however quite frequently there will be a delay in pressing the button and the lights changing.. up to 30 seconds. Sometimes the buttons just don't work altogether. This has been a problem for a while now and others have also complained about it. I believe phillips has become complacent with their lead in smart home devices and don't care so much about fixing issues. I've seen this play out before so I think we will see a different company become the market leader in a few years or so.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works - but not that intuitive to setup.
Reviewed in Australia on 16 June 2021

At least this gateway worked for Zigbee 3.0 - not all seem to; so much for Standards. Setup took awhile, not intuitive or easy. However easy enough after playing with it for awhile. Easy to delete a switch and restart the process over. Now working and talks with Alexa so I now have voice commands to turn on my lights, fans (+ speed control). I'm happy with the outcome but will say this technology has a long way to go before it truly is plug & Play or intuitive.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works pretty well, but let down by the software
Reviewed in Australia on 17 March 2020

The sensor is pretty good at what it does. It can't see through transparent glass, which is annoying, but probably to be expected for PIR sensors in general. The software is ok. The sensor sometimes loses the hub for a few minutes (a real pain when the sensor is turning lights on automatically based on movement), and the app is pretty badly laid out (you have to go into device setup just to toggle on/off the sensor?). But overall, a pretty decent little device for the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money without bridge
Reviewed in Australia on 8 April 2021

Completely useless without the bridge. Was hoping to use it to come on and off on schedule. All it does out of the box is allow Bluetooth control. So handy if the plug is hidden but otherwise waste of money. Should have purchased the Eve plug. Can set a count down timer. Will cover the plug next to it too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works as hoped, but huge footprint
Reviewed in Australia on 19 December 2020

Works well. Easy to integrate into the app as all Hue products are.
It's quite large though, so you can't put 2 of them next together on a standard power point. It's a struggle to fit anything next to one, to be honest.
