4.0 out of 5 starsFast and flawless
Reviewed in Australia on 10 August 2020
I bought this to replace a Belkin Wemo smart plug. The Wemo would be slow to respond to commands, would occasionally drop off the network and I would often get "Device isn't responding" when used with Alexa (but it would always switch on when asked to the second time). I also wanted to be able to pair it with a Hue sensor without using IFTTT.

The Hue smart plug responds very quickly to the sensor and voice commands via Alexa, and so far I've had no issues with it losing its connection or failing to respond to my voice commands via Alexa. It's not as bulky as the Wemo, but still impedes access to any socket next to it (see photo).

One disadvantage compared to the Wemo plug is that it doesn't monitor power usage.

Would be an easy 5 stars if the form factor was smaller and it had power monitoring.

1.0 out of 5 starsMisleading product
Reviewed in Australia on 15 April 2021
This plug is not recognised by Hue as a plug. Only recognises it as a lamp no matter how much you try to change it.
At $55.00 it is overpriced. Not only that it maximum amp is 10 amp and all says not to use on any cooking or home appliances. E.g kettles , toaster.
Absolutel rubbish

3.0 out of 5 stars It works, but It s a bit overpriced

I wont give this product the highest score mainly because I truly believe this should ve come with the light bars, and NOT sold separately. The light bars are expensive already. I purchased them just to find a big surprise...They don t work unless you purchase this bridge device. DOn't take me wrong. THe device does its job, but just a bit unhappy due to the fact they mention in little font you need this device. I wonder how many people purchased the light bars just to realise they had to spend almost $100 extra dollars to get them to work?

5.0 out of 5 stars The brain of the Philips Hue system. Get one of these if you want the bulbs to work to their full potential.
Reviewed in Australia on 3 April 2018

I've had an Echo Dot (Alexa) from Amazon for a while now and wanted to add some smart devices to it, so I bought this and two Philips Hue bulbs to try it out. The set up took a bit of concentration, but before long I had the lights connected to wifi via the Hue Smart Bridge and was controlling it all via my phone. Step one done.

Then it came time to connect it to Alexa. The downside here is that I had to link my Amazon account to the Philips Hue system in order for it to work. This technically means a computer somewhere on the Internet is relaying messages from my Echo Dot to the Hue Bridge for me (even thought they're only meters from each other). The advantage is that I can control the lights from Alexa but also from anywhere via the app. Good fun.

At the end of the day, there's a great satisfaction controlling the lights in the house via Alexa. I've got a few other smart devices since and Alexa can control them all. I'm pretty sure there are a lot more things I could start doing with this system. I feel like I've only just started scratching the surface.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and Good

The Phillips Hue hub and products are all good quality. My only gripe and it has nothing to do with the product, is you cant connect two or more hubs on the same system and have them work together, something that Phillips really needs to sort out. So if you have more than 50 Hue devices in your home, and want it to work with Alexa, then I probably would look elsewhere. Other than that its all good

5.0 out of 5 stars Life changing

Phillips Hue lighting is just incredible. Can’t find something in the dark? Just say Alexa lights on and you don’t need to fumble for a torch or light switch. Forgot to leave a light on and you’re coming home late? You can turn on the light from your phone so you don’t stumble into a dark house. You can turn lights on randomly when you’re away to make it look like someone is home. I don’t know how I lived without it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hue bridge makes sense but I would have loved a better experience with it
Reviewed in Australia on 6 July 2018

The Hue bridge was a painful device to get right as I had installed my globes in the ceilings as the bridge was out of stock at the time but it is required for harmony support

So having to get ladders and unscrew 15 lights was a frustrating process that would be solved with wifi/network discovery or storing that data in the Alexa app as an example

I have been having a few issues with connecting to certain lights but it is handy to have

3.0 out of 5 stars Works - but not that intuitive to setup.
Reviewed in Australia on 16 June 2021

At least this gateway worked for Zigbee 3.0 - not all seem to; so much for Standards. Setup took awhile, not intuitive or easy. However easy enough after playing with it for awhile. Easy to delete a switch and restart the process over. Now working and talks with Alexa so I now have voice commands to turn on my lights, fans (+ speed control). I'm happy with the outcome but will say this technology has a long way to go before it truly is plug & Play or intuitive.

5.0 out of 5 stars You need it for a hue environment
Reviewed in Australia on 29 June 2019

The bridge by itself isn't really anything by itself but if you're going into the hue ecosystem you need one of these to really use them. For example you need the bridge to talk to the lights for your phone (using the hue app) and control the lights and setup actions.

The bridge works well and it's kind of a set it up and forget about it.

Works for me, s/w appears to be well supported (ie there are software updates - woohoo) Only issue with Hue is that Philips don't have a power outlet with power use monitoring which I kinda like.

We use the Hue Smart Bridge with the Philips light bars on my son's desk. It's a fantastic product and was so easy to install. In the future, I think I'll be buying more Philips Hue products to attach to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought To Update Lights
Reviewed in Australia on 18 February 2019

Had to buy this item to update the software on my lights I have been using with Alexa Echo Unit. Not bad deal for under 50$. Easy to understand interface however once lights are updated I shall probably never look at this item again. All in all item is good as described and has a futuristic looking LED light around it.
