A beautiful nurse. A lethal injection. A gruesomely charred corpse.
Nothing could have shocked the sleepy community of Morgantown, West Virginia, more than the lurid details that surfaced after a house fire claimed the life of Shelly Michael's husband, Jimmy. Local authorities suspected possible arson. Then they discovered that Jimmy had been dead before the fire even started - paralyzed by a fatal dose of muscle relaxant....
Did Shelly Michael, a respected nurse and mother, kill her second husband and torch her own home? Were the rumors true that she'd had an affair with her husband's employee only two weeks before the murder? Or did she kill Jimmy simply for the insurance money? Charged with first-degree murder and first-degree arson, Shelly would never stop claiming her innocence - even to this day.

But concise with a background about the victim and perpetrator which helps follow their complicated blended families.
I first heard of this case on Oxygen's "Snapped" and then saw more of it on "48 Hours" and "Deadly Women" (the latter show changed some things around; Jimmy Michael was NOT a doctor).
Where do I start with Michelle Goots Michael (I think her entire family is weird)? What was her problem? She had a good job, two healthy kids, two healthy stepkids, a beautiful home and the man she CHASED and took away from his first wife....and she's "depressed"? Oh, boo bleeping hoo!
Shelly Michael is of one those women I cannot abide...the wanna-be princess. She had a $65 an hour job and she didn't want to work. She didn't like rules of any kind (and look where she is now). And all that cheerleader nonsense? Never grew up, that one.
The way she treated her stepson, Drew...I wished I could have reached into the book and slapped her into next week. That's how angry her abuse of that child made me.
Don't even get me started on how she taunted Jimmy Michael's first wife, Stephanie, and threatened to take her kids away. What a sociopath she is!
What I never understood was how people can call her beautiful. She's no such thing...inside OR out. Add that to her controlling nature and I don't know what any man saw in her.
As for her being "intelligent" -- please. The mistakes in her writings ("pawbear" for "pallbearer") were laughable. How did she ever get into college? Oh, I forgot -it took her seven years, didn't it?
All the religious/biblical crap got on my nerves. Lot of hypocrisy to go around...on all sides.
Bottom line -- John Glatt scores again! This one will really draw you in.
