Ein Pseudoanimationsfilm, bei dem echte SchauspielerInnen ins Grimassenhafte verpixelt wurden und aussehen wie die Formwandler aus "Deep Space Nine". Als wäre das nicht gruselig genug, durchleben Kinder, die nicht mehr an den Weihnachtsmann glauben, eine Horrorfahrt mit dem Polarexpress, um endlich zum "Glauben" bekehrt zu werden. Zur Belohnung winkt die Erfüllung aller materialistischer Wünsche. Dazwischen gibt es viel an Geschwindigkeitsrausch mit Gekreische und grauenhaften Figuren, die vor allem für kleiner Kindere echt zum Fürchten sind. Da gibt es nichts Liebenswürdiges, kein fröhliches Lachen, sondern lediglich deviante Ich-glaub-nicht-mehr-an-den-Weihnachtsmann-Kinder, die sich von einer lebensbedrohlichen Sequenz zur anderen ängstigen. Der Weihnachtswelt ist dann ein totalitärer Massenaufmarsch mit Führerkultinszenierung: Krass! Der Weihnachtsmann ist die allein selig machende Superexistenz, umgeben von Wichteln, die in Stasi-Manier überprüfen, ob die Kinderchen auch wirklich alle brav gewesen sind, um mit Paketen belohnt zu werden. Bedenklich die vielen 5-Stern-Bewertungen! Wer also glaubt, wird belohnt und wer kritische Fragen stellt, den schickt der Polarexpress auf eine Horrorfahrt, wo man ihm/ihr den Glauben schon wieder beibringen wird... Das sind totalitäre Fantasien, aber konsequenterweise massentauglich, wie man an den begeisterten Reaktionen hier sieht. Das ist noch gruseliger als der Film!

The Polar Express is basically a christmas film for children of all ages including myself and im 73.Its a really enjoyable 2 hours of fantasy which is just as enjoyable at any time of the year,and is about children who have lost their believe in santa clause,and go to the north pole on the polar express to meet him.If you have the necessary equipment i recommend you purchase the excellent 3D version,it really puts you in the picture and gives you so much more enjoyment.Great blu ray picture and sound.

Dieser Film ist in unserer Familie eine absolute Tradition geworden. Damals war er noch recht neu und wurde auch von allen als Kinderfilm eingestuft. Aber als wir die Qualität und Liebe, die in diesem Film steckt, erkannt haben, war er zu Weihnachten nicht mehr aus der Videothek wegzudenken. Umso größer war die Sorge, als er eines Weihnachten nicht mehr da war, wo er sein könnte. Wir haben das komplette Haus durchforstet, aber ihn nicht mehr wieder gefunden. Insofern haben wir ihn hier bei Amazon neu bestellt und konnten - dank der schnellen Lieferung - unsere Tradition fortsetzen.

I was really excited about the new version - I already have The Polar Express on DVD but after seeing it at the Imax in 3D, I was looking forward to a little bit of that magic in my home.

I know that home 3D with those cheap coloured glasses won't ever rival the Imax's, but home 3D can work very well (Journey to the Center of the Earth has great 3D effects).

However, as stated elsewhere, the 3D here goes from 'slight' to headache-inducing blurred double-images - my other half could only stand 5 minutes before she had a migraine.

I really do think they've mis-authored the disc, but then that begs the question - "why did they release it in this state?"

It's saving grace is that it includes the 2D blu-ray version, which has very good picture and sound quality.

Buy it for that reason alone.
