Adaptation of the classic novel by Jane Austen starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. When wealthy Mr Bingley (Simon Woods) and his friend, the dashing Mr Darcy (Macfadyen), arrive in a small Hertfordshire town, Mrs Bennett (Brenda Blethyn) sees it as the perfect opportunity to marry off her eligible daughters. It's a beautiful classic and there is really not much I could say that hasn't already been said. My mom watched this on repeat when I was young and now it is my default comfort film to relax after a tough day. Every scene has subtle intricacies and deft acting choices, the soundtrack is sublime and the cinematography is top notch.

A struggle of Pride and Prejudice, perception and reality, forgiveness and love. It's a beautiful story, it's definitely one of the most best movies I've seen to date. It's from Jane Austen's most favourite novel. A window into 18th century life amongst the English gentry. Stunning Stately Homes & beautiful English countryside.

Großartige Verfilmung!
Reviewed in Germany on 20 November 2017Verified Purchase

Hours of Jane Austen joy.

My mum loves Pride and Prejudice(the novel) and particularly enjoys watching this version on DVD.The music accompaniment is splendid. She likes this rather more contemporary film as she can watch it in one go. I think she finds the other versions are trying a bit too hard to be true to the novel and , you may think that -a bit like my review, they are a rather long-winded.

Donald Sutherland.....depicting the Father and husband of this household full of women. He is our favourite!
Beautifully portrayed, twinkle, humour, poignant emotion, famous lines.
All the other actors, yes, brilliantly portrayed, too.
Watchable time and again.
Yes, definitely our personal favourite production.

Love it

Great film, I love it. I like Keira knightley’s take on Elizabeth Bennett. I wasn’t sure about Mr Darcy the first time but grew to love him too. I have to admit that I haven’t seen the older version of the film starring Colin Firth so I can’t compare to that but for me, I loved this one and felt it did justice to a great story

Good, but the bbc version is more thorough and faithful
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 March 2015Verified Purchase
In a nutshell, this is a good adaption of the book but not a patch on the bbc version. Basically, if you want the definitive and most accurate adaption of the book, go with the classic bbc version, if you want a slimmed down but ultimately enjoyable telling of the pride and prejudice story go for this. The acting is solid throughout, even Darcy grew on me over the course of the film.
The one major criticism I have is that fitting the story into one 1hr 45 min movie means that you lose some of the supporting characters and reduce screen time for those that remain. This in turn means that the actual motivations and actions of the lead casts on occasions don't make sense - in a fuller adaption, it makes it and easier to believe Lydia would do what she does and even Lizzies emotional journey seems somewhat simplified.
A good adaption but as a movie, there are several or holes and missed scenes.
