The characters, the music, the storyline, the costumes, the set and the fairytale adventure. This reminds you that cinema does not have to be fancy or over the top with intricate storylines and confusing subtext. The Princess Bride is true in its presentation and does not deviate from pure bliss and simplicity. I can never grow tired of watching this film.

This movie is a cult classic. Loved by me and now loved by my children. Only problem with this is now all the good classics come at price and for almost the same amount as hiring it I could’ve bought it. This time Amazon capitalised on a city in lockdown but it won’t always be the case as we start to have ready access to retail but loyalty is priceless.

I expected the dialogue would be more sophisticated. If you compare it to Peter Rabbit, (2018) the story appeals similarly to the little ones, but the dialogue has lots to endear it to adults. The Princess Bride had a little of this but it could have been much more.

First of all, if you haven’t seen Princess Bride, stop reading now, go buy it and sit down and watch one of the greatest movies ever made....

...ok... now that you’re back let’s agree some things:

1. This film is amazing. It’s hilarious, it’s action packed, it’s clever, it’s family friendly, and it’s touching.
2. The theme tune for this film is amazing. A song that will be strumming through your brain for years to come.
3. The title sucks - and I believe that’s why more people I speak to don’t know about this film. They think it’s a pink girly film when in fact it’s actually a Piratey, action, adventure film!
4. The quality of this transfer to Blu-Ray is superb. It’s crystal clear in both visual and audio. Probably the best way you’ll ever see this film.

Seriously, if you haven’t seen this film already go and watch it now! Get past the title and you will find one of the finest movies ever made.

Possibly the best fairy tale movie ever made. Sword fights, pirates, kidnap, magic potions and a true love so enduring that death cannot stop it.
Not to mention a 7'4" wrestler who has a skill for rhyming.

One of my favourite of all times, and exactly the antidote that you need to whats happening in the outside world at the minute.
The only thing that dates this film is the video game at the beginning and the ROUS (Rodents of Unusual Size).

Having just listened to the audiobook of the making of the film, the stories behind the story make it even more enjoyable.

Good Bluray edition with bonys extras. The picture is still a little grainy, but in some ways that makes it a bit better.

Family Favourite for a Wet Sunday Afternoon

This is one of those family favourites that come out every so often on a long wet Sunday afternoon. The story is a delightful take on a fairy tale, told by a loving grandfather (Peter Falk) to his grandson who is sick in bed. Now here's the thing: the boy is not particularly keen on having to listen to a silly old fairy tale. But like the audience he is soon drawn into the world of princes and princesses, adventures and misadventures and, yes, something that can only be described as a passionate romance.

The film is a lovely alternative to action packed superhero fantasies produced on a huge budget. It relies on the magic of the story and the performances of the cast. Also worth mentioning is the rather enchanting music. Really enjoyable film for all ages.

The DVD I bought has no subtitles. However, none were promised in the product description and the sound quality is good, so it's not a problem. Other releases may have subtitles and it may be worth while looking at the various buying options.

Subtle dialogue and acting

A school play by 18 year olds - I felt I should watch the film as I had not heard the story. Apart from the shrieky American accents by 3 of the characters I loved the subtleties of the dialogue and the interaction between the actors. I can see why it has become a cult movie amongst the younger generation . I am looking forward to watching the school play and hear my 'grandson' utter the words 'my name is ..........prepare to die'. Good to watch several times to really appreciate the film.
