I adore Misha and everything he stands for. He is such a strong, determined and loyal character. I love how even though he is trying find himself and deal with his grief, he still makes it a point to be there for Ryen and stand up for people that can’t or won’t stand up for themselves. I just love him.
These two are literally perfect for each other. They are each other’s tribe. She’s just a lost girl, trying to fit in and he’s a lost boy, who doesn’t care to fit in. Together they compliment each other, especially when Misha finally brings out the true Ryen.
This book is more than just another romance book. It’s about pretending to be something that your not, about trying to fit in and the lengths some of us will go to not be alone. Even if it means, going against everything you are. It’s about self discovery, acceptance and finally finding peace.
The only thing I didn’t like about this book is the use of the derogatory term used towards Manny.
I did struggle to get into the first few chapters, It didn’t suck me in straight away. I also wish I got more answers regarding Misha’s mum.
I definitely recommend this.
Also, to anyone that is or was bullied, please remember, it does get better and you are not alone.
There also seemed to be a lot and nothing going on all at once.
I’m glad Ryen realised she could be herself. I’m more than happy that she went to help Manny. I’m glad JD and Ten proved more human and less Bully- I think I would’ve liked more of them in the book, especially JD. Trey definitely deserved what he got and so did Misha’s mum- I was disappointed that that was her actually.
It’s a good read. They’re all kind of bullies until they accept who they are and who they’ve hurt and start to make amends.
4/5 🌶
• Friends to lovers (kinda)
• Bully romance (kinda)
“You are my favourite place.” 💕
This was a hot spicy and romantic read… Kind of opposites attract except that one of the two is living a lie.
Friends the lovers however things develop in such a way that makes them kind of Enemies at times.
This book is a relationship driven story and it is kind of light on the plot… And that it’s not very twisty turny Like panel of the Douglas is other series, the devils night series… This book is in the same world as some of you may know one of the characters is a relation of one of the characters from the devils night series and the two characters in this book make an appearance in the series later on as well. But you don’t have to have read that series to be able to understand what’s going on in this series.Just wanted to make that comparison that if you were expecting the same kind of energy or vibe as the devils night series that’s not what you’re going to get in this particular standalone.
Having said that I love the character is the character development is great and there are some revelations you get to be shocked by still which is good. The romance was great and the spice was plenty.
While this book is certainly an 18+ because of the content the characters are still in high school last year of high school and have barely turned 18 themselves.
Almost every girl wants to be seen, to be noticed even if it means their own unhappiness. There is so much about the main girl that resonated with me. She was me, or I was her in my teenage years.
This book is about so much more than coming to terms with loss and grief, its about acceptance and love. And moving forward.
I feel like everyone who has ever been in our main gals shoes needs to read this book.
Now on the other hand lets not forget Misha, he was definitely unexpected and stood the test of time. I loved his charcter for needing those answers and wanting what he did. Everything that boy did meant something. Was for a purposes and as heaet breaking a purpose as it was, it was worth it for both of them.
The characters have written to eachother since they were young children and became best penpal friends . But when Misha realizes she’s in the same room at a party and meets her but realizes she isn’t who he thought she was all goes south fast.
There’s issues such as grief and loss , heart ache, school yard bullying , lies and deceit and all those juicy kinds of things a good angsty book has !
I loved their journey! And am curious about Misha’s friends and cousins stories now too ! (I think this is a spin off to another series
By this author but you definitely don’t have to have read them !
This is a hard book to shelf, there’s some hidden drama there was was known and some that wasn’t, I had an inkling I was on the right track and it was satisfying when I was right!
Characters were flawed, so very flawed but it’s their story and it covered some great themes and made me feel things!
Also I did not get the little corrupt reference at the end. Even when the names were mentioned, it wasn’t until it was explained that I was like OH YER! Makes me want to go back to Devils Night!

I didn’t like Ryen. I didn’t like Misha. The idea of the story started out with potential. They’ve been pen pals since childhood but have never met. When they do meet she is nothing like the person she was in her letters. She’s nasty, fake, pretentious and an utter cow.
I get that the author meant to make her two faced but she had zero redeeming features. And where did the random Laboutins come from?
Misha is a ball of rage who blew too hot and cold for me.
Carnal sin for me in a book is to throw in some random anal action and it go from, no thanks I don’t want to do that, to let’s get is on with no prep and no lube. Let’s be real.
I kept thinking it had to get better, the potential really was there. Unghhhhh I hate it when that happens.

What a spectacular story!
I think at some point we have all been where Ryen is throughout this book, think we have all changed ourselves to suit others when we really shouldn’t have and reading this only proves that. Obviously I figured it’s out a while back (because I’m old or at least that’s what my YA’s say lol) but reading Ryen’s journey made me think back and wonder if I would have been happier growing up if I had had someone like Misha. Someone who isn’t scared to confront the truth and yes probably.
Honest to goodness this story needs to be read, it needs to be read by everyone and I’m seriously glad that I have.

Ryen isn’t a bad person. But she isn’t good. She embodies the dirty, gritty, indifferent sides of our personas. But she’s been given a chance to redeem herself. She tried to be brave. She does and acts as we might hope to act in her situation.
But it isn’t a beautiful budding love. It’s hard hitting. Misha is written well, but some of the angst we experience through Ryen don’t come across quite as well with Misha, and this is my only criticism. Misha has done his growing outside of the narrative, he’s already done a lot of his atoning. Whilst the story outside of the pages would have made this novel the weight of a concrete block, I did wish for more on that front.
That all said, I did love the story, and undoubtedly I will come back to it eventually when I’m ready to re-digest that which I missed on my first read through.

The characters where fantastic and to say that although this is a young adult book it was still brilliant, for me they really didn't appear that young at all. This book went from Friendship, then hate and then love, it was "mean" girls at its finest in my opinion and when all the cards are laid on the table it makes for a thrilling love story.
Misha and Ryen were just brilliant and for me, I would love to see a book of all that happened for them. His rise to fame and them becoming the team that we know that they are. Maybe one day, we can only hope. This book is a total recommend for me. Next up for me is Corrupt.....

Misha and Ryen became pen pals when they were 11yrs old, it was only supposed to be a school project for each of them but they formed a bond over the course of seven years. They both come to the decision that they should never meet and never check online for eachother, they value what they have with one another and wouldn't want it to change.
However when Misha agreed to a gig with his band and Ryen happens to be there, he hears her name and can't help himself, its become more for him then just friendship as the years have passed, what he never expected was to find out that the Ryen he has been speaking to isnt who he was faced with right now. That night sets off a chain of events that will change both Misha and Ryen, their life, their friendship and so much more.
I thought Misha was just amazing in this book, he had gone through some hurting times and felt like he no longer had anyone who understood him. His muse to his music had always been Ryen, but after finally meeting her he was disappointed to find out she wasn't who she said she was. Ryen has known what it's like to be bullied, to be the unpopular girl so when given the opportunity to be someone else she jumps at it, not realising that she has to pretend to be someone she isn't as a result.
I didn't like Ryen at first, I think I was as angry as Misha was with the way she acted infront of her bratty friends, but she really grew on me as the book went on. Although Misha was desperate to stay away from Ryen, he couldn't resist the pull of her, but before he gave in, he helped to bring out the girl he had been speaking to for all these years, he reminded Ryen of what was important in life and popularity wasn't one of those things if it meant you had to sacrifice you Identity.
They were like fire and ice together and I loved it so much, the push and pull, their kisses, it was pure passion and pent up sexual tension that had clearly been bottled up for the last 7yrs. I couldn't get enough of these two and I'm so glad I got round to reading this book. 5 Star Read ❤.
