I felt the book started really well
I enjoyed the easy to read description of Brian Cox’s early years growing up in Dundee
However as the book progressed to describe plays ,films and Television productions he had appeared in and his ,at times, rather judgemental attitude towards some actors it swiftly descended into the simple jotting down of a rather monotonous & somewhat indulgent list to pad out the book a bit
It left the impression that his initial enthusiasm had quickly worn off and that perhaps the task of writing a book became almost as onerous as the task for the reader to actually plough through to the end
Sadly towards the end I found myself skipping pages and when I reached the last page it was with a enormous sigh of relief
I’m sure Brian Cox is a lovely person but I found his memoirs to be a tad underwhelming

An interesting book, well written and with a sense of time. Amazing how he can remember all the places and plays he has been in. I found the interminable reference to his Shakespeare appearances a bit tiring. I admit to never seeing some of them and the references really didn’t make me want to go. So many famous names but mostly kindly remembered which was a bit disappointing. Obvious tension with Method Actors and interesting parts describing differences between Directors and script. Reading between the lines he was a bit of a sexual athlete. Towards the end I started skipping bits so the book might be a hundred pages too long. All in all it showed the breadth of his experience as I only know him from tv and film. Thanks for the memories!

It moved me to tears and enlightened me to the craft of acting and Brian’s insight into the film and theatre industries, and made this elevate itself way beyond any autobiography I’ve ever read before.

It becomes a litany of praise for Succession his very successful tv series. Some interesting observations on the art of acting, some snide remarks on fellow actors and some praise too. Reads a bit like a filled out diary but a diary he didn’t keep himself. Disappointing.

A collection of anecdotes praising or dissing many household names - highly readable in a scurrilous way. Overall I was left with a feeling of lacking the depth which I associate with so many of his performances from TV to stage and Film. So though not perhaps Renaissance man a rollicking good read nonetheless.
