Sweet Potato
5.0 out of 5 starsI have now found my perfect wireless mouse.
Reviewed in Australia on 4 September 2021
After many years of using gaming mice, I think I have found my perfect mouse.

Before now, I have never used a wireless gaming mouse that did not feel like it had a major flaw, somewhere in its design and use.

My previous long term gaming mouse was the Corsair M65, which was pretty much perfect for me if it weren't for the eventual result of one of the weights under the mouse regularly coming loose and falling out. This Basilisk comes close to having a similar weighted feel that I am very comfortable with.

In bluetooth mode, battery life is incredible. I have been running the battery that came in the device for about 8 months now, several house of use each day, with the occasional (though rare) day where I have forgotten to turn the mouse off and it has sat in bluetooth mode over night.... yet it still register as 80% battery life. Part of that is due to this being the barebones Basilisk, without any useless LED lighting to burn through unnecessary energy.

The other, 2.4ghz mode feels good, but I honestly did not feel I needed it. Maybe if I were in a highly "bluetooth" polluted environment where a signal could be lost because of every other douche using their bluetooth devices. The fact that the dongle for the 2.4ghz mode is hidden snuggly in the body of the mouse is a nice touch so that you don't have to worry about carrying/losing it.

Now after 8 months it feels like a real gaming mouse in terms of clicks. I have had other "gaming" mice with those claims of billions of clicks, only to start magically double clicking on single clicks after 6 months... including not-the-absolute-top-FPS-flagship-model mice from Logitech, Corsair, etc. This feels like a proper mouse I will be using for the next 5 to 10 years.

One flaw I do feel in the design... switching DPI is a single toggle button behind the mouse wheel... not UP and DOWN buttons to bounce back and forth. So if you go one step faster in DPI, you are going to cycle your way forward until you reach the lesser speed again. That and the fact that you don't have any kind of colour LED indicator regarding which DPI mode you are in makes switching DPI mid-game (if that is your sort of thing)... makes it less intuitive as you will have to stop and swivel test when you cycle back to your normal DPI choice (unless you're one of those people that is willing to commit to memory how many toggle clicks it takes to cycle back... and that ain't me).

And most important for me... all functionality also works in Linux. After connecting under an Ubuntu distro of Linux... both Bluetooth and the 2.4ghz dongle... Linux automatically displays a battery meter in the task bar for the Basilisk, and your device is acknowledged by its full "Razer Basilisk X.... etc" name under Linux.

Thumb buttons act as normal by default (forward and back in your browser for example)... and always acknowledge as their proper "Thumb" designations when rebinding in games.. both under Windows and Linux.

Simple, yet very effective... I find I prefer using this Basilisk now over my old (yet still clicking perfectly) Corsair m65. very happy with this purchase.

2.0 out of 5 starsWas good for a while...
Reviewed in Australia on 5 August 2020
This was a good mouse for a few months. It was comfortable to use and I changed batteries only 3 or 4 times.

However, after a few months of regular daily use, the usb connection didn't function any more. I tried everything to alleviate the problem but to no avail. So, used the Bluetooth connection instead for a while longer. Then, the right mouse button became very sensitive and unbearable to use, even at times it did not even register my clicks. As such, I cannot recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars clean and sleek, suitable for gaming and work
Reviewed in Australia on 17 July 2020

likes:
- has dongle and bluetooth
- clean design so very suitable to use at work
- nice clicky feel
- plastic design (can be a con) but makes the whole mouse very light. compared to mx master this is way lighter

cons:
- mouse goes to sleep very quickly when idle and needs some time to wake up.
- supported software is synapse 3 which is not available in macOS so you'd need to just rely on the standard mouse settings in a mac. you also cannot adjust mouse button 4 and 5 without the software so it's just back and front forever.

2.0 out of 5 stars Connection issues using dongle
Reviewed in Australia on 7 April 2022

This mouse has a nice shape and feels wonderful in the hand - not too big, not too small, just right. It would be my go-to mouse but for the wireless connection issues. When using the 'Hyperspeed' dongle, the connection drops out from time to time, and the green led on the middle mouse button will start flashing. I spent some time trying to find a fix with Razer's customer support. They are utterly worthless and will waste your time asking you to do meaningless and time-consuming things like reinstalling their crapware, taking video of the mouse not working (!), filling out long questionnaires asking the same stuff over and over. My recommendation is to not ever bother with Razer customer support, just return whatever it is that's causing trouble. Later I read on the web that mobile devices can interfere with the dongle. But who doesn't keep a mobile device or three on their desk? I returned the mouse as defective and Amazon promptly sent a replacement. The replacement has the same issue. So the defect is in the design. Meanwhile my boring, oval Logitech G304 wireless mouse has been steadfast alongside all my iphones, ipads, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars 99% of a G502.

Love this mouse as it's very similar to my Logitech G502 while being 1/3 of the price.
Only thing it is missing is the free scroll button however that's only useful for websites that have endless scrolling.
Overall you won't find a better wireless mouse for the price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Height is great for a gaming mouse, would prefer an extra 1cm
Reviewed in Australia on 15 October 2021

Got this for games as the Microsoft Sculpt I was using seemed to have a little bit of lag. Would prefer it to be the same height and angle of the Sculpt but so far haven't had any arm/wrist pain whilst using it. The scroll wheel button is better than the Sculpt as it's a little higher and I don't accidently click the left mouse button when pressing it anymore.

Edit: After having this for about a month, I'm changing my review from 5 stars to 2. Getting frequent drop outs and randomly having the mouse get stuck scrolling down super fast without touching the scroll wheel. Only solution is to turn the mouse off and back on.

The cover for the battery is also a bit loose and creaks and moves while in use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good mouse for the price
Reviewed in Australia on 15 July 2020

The Basilisk X is a pretty great mouse. Have used a Razer Abyssus previous to this but disliked the grip as I could never find a comfortable hand position. The Basilisk X feels much more comfortable in my hand, and the battery life is really incredible. To this day, I have not had to swap out the battery even once. The side buttons are kinda gimmicky, because on basically all games, the side buttons just register as "Left CTRL" and not "Mouse4" or "Mouse5". The only minor thing is the pop-out back panel that houses the 2.4GHz receiver and battery: at the bottom, the edge sticks out a bit and can occasionally poke my hand, which gets annoying. But it's not really a dealbreaker. Overall, it's worth the 70-80 bucks I paid for it, and probably the best mouse I've used next to my old Logitech M165.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good wireless mouse

The Razer Basilisk x Hyperspeed wireless mouse is a very good mouse.
If you're not a big RGB fan then definitely get this mouse.
You can use the razer synapse program to completely reprogram every button. It has a very fast response rate hence (Hyperspeed). It also has blue-tooth capabilities but it is not as fast as using the 2.4ghz dongle.

Overall nice ergonomic feel and texture, the scroll wheel ticks over nicely and the side buttons feel nice as well.
My only complaint is the mouse wheel button needs a bit of pressure to push in and it doesn't go in much at all. (very shallow)

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well

It works fine. It has extra buttons that can be assigned a task. However there are times when the mouse stops responding and no amount of pressing buttons makes it wake up again unless I remove the battery and put it back in again. Even when the battery still has a lot of life left.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I had hoped for.
Reviewed in Australia on 3 May 2022

I ended up sending this one back.

It was comfortable enough to use, but there things that I thought were a bit lacking:
1) the scroll wheel did not have a free spinning feature like I had become used to with some of the logitech mice.
2) the ability to configure the buttons was not as easy as I would have liked. Or at least some the predefined commands that can be mapped in other mice could not be easily done with this mouse.
