About the Author
After establishing himself as a writer for adults, Roald Dahl began writing children's stories in 1960 while living in England with his family. His first stories were written as entertainment for his own children, to whom many of his books are dedicated.
Roald Dahl is now considered one of the most beloved storytellers of our time. Although he passed away in 1990, his popularity continues to increase as his fantastic novels, including James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The BFG, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, delight an ever-growing legion of fans.

The son of Norwegian parents, Roald Dahl was born in Wales in 1916 and educated at Repton. He was a fighter pilot for the RAF during World War Two, and it was while writing about his experiences during this time that he started his career as an author.
His fabulously popular children's books are read by children all over the world. Some of his better-known works include James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr Fox, Matilda, The Witches, and The BFG.
He died in November 1990.

Set came in a satchel but well protected with bubble wrap although I was expecting it in an Amazon box. No big drama.

6 classic fairy stories made even more gruesome and whole lot funnier. If you love Roald Dahl, you will love these stories. Each story is short and rhyming with wonderful Quentin Blake illustrations.
The stories are:
Cinderella
Jack and the Beanstalk
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf
The Three Little Pigs
Each story is hilarious, with humour that appeals to my 6 and 4 year olds, as well as their (*ahem*) 37 year old mother!
I cannot do justice here, to the clever writing and rhyming, but just one example I love is rhyming "palace" with "jealous" by spelling it 'jalous'. It always makes me laugh.
Every line is a treat and there are a number of lines that will stay with you forever, such as:
"The small girl smiles. One eyelid flickers.
She whips a pistol from her knickers."
Although I adore this book, one word of warning: if you have a young child, who is sensitive, you might want to wait a while. My 4 year old daughter was a bit scared at first, so I left it. But now she is 6 she enjoys it. And my 4 year old son was fine straight away. There is violence (but then there is in all fairy stories).
The BBC have also made a great animated version of this, where they have cleverly weaved the stories together. A must watch too.
In summary: A classic, you must buy.
(The kindle version is great too)

I grew up not even knowing he had tackled fairytales and given them the Dahl treatment. A mis-spent youth perhaps!
My daughter whizzed through the book, it isn't long and it didn't disappoint.
Old fashioned 'horridness' for todays young.
If you or yours, like mine, enjoy books with humour, silliness and that are more than a bit naughty then it could be for you.

Excellent value for money
