Moning Mad
5.0 out of 5 starsCompelling, a little naughty and a great story
Reviewed in Australia on 8 October 2021
Totally spoiler free but OMG what an ending. I kind of hate myself for reading it the day it came out as now I have to wait until November! 😬😭

KF Brenne books are always hilarious and I really enjoy her unique characters. This book was no different, although it did have some surprising sexual situations! Finley was a strong character who didn't take rubbish from anyone, and Nyfain-the-sometimes-jerk was compelling. I loved Finleys' connection with her family and how they drove her to try and help the Kingdom.

If you haven't tried K F Breene you are missing out.

3.0 out of 5 starsGreat story but left me conflicted
Reviewed in Australia on 24 October 2021
I really liked the storyline in this take on Beauty and the Beast, but I am conflicted. I am all for the broody hero, though we find he is more layered as the story continues. Our heroine is tough without being invulnerable and I am curious to learn more about her repressed animal, though I have my suspicions.
I'm not generally a prude but the graphic, in-your-face language and scenarios, particularly the Hadriel character, seemed overly aggressive and killed the romance element for me at times. The regular use of the c bomb is a huge turn off for me and the sudden urge the characters seemed to have to talk dirty in the middle of other issues was a bit jolting.
With that said, if you can look past the list interludes, there was action, adventure and world building that make me want to search up the second installment to see what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars KF Breene got let off her leash and I am here for it!

This book was the absolute best of Breenes zaney sense of humour, mixed with the plot of my favourite fairytale and enough heat to keep me warm on a cold, rainy day. I absolutely loved Finleys inner monolog and her conversations with her animal, I loved the variety in supporting characters, and the back and forth with the beast. Fantastic and funny, it's left me gagging for more!

My god that woman can write!! Loved the side characters, the main character, the main interest. Love their depth, chemistry, the humour! So many laugh out loud moments! The people felt real, relatable, honest. Absolutely fantastic. If you like a bit of smut in your books but also a bloody good storyline, purchase immediately. It’s a good time. This is my new favourite series. AAA+ and all of the stars.

I must admit, I didn’t like the start. Up until about 20% in I was considering giving up and finding something else to read.
I’m so glad I persisted though. Once I got used to the language, style and humour it really hooked me!
Loved it- can’t wait for the next one :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and refreshing...with a side of pearl clutching
Reviewed in Australia on 9 October 2021
I loved this take on the Beauty and the Beast! The concept was fresh and interesting but dark at the same time...I mean the original has some pretty dark themes too....but this has some interesting practices going on in the spice department. It holds onto the fundamental elements of the story, which I loved, and so far the milestones seem to be the same, but the way they get there is wild and exciting. This story showcases quirky humour and individuality, and it's the start of a whole new world of characters that I cannot wait to read more about! It's crazy that even though I know how the story is supposed to end I'm enjoying the journey so much, and I know there are gonna be more curve balls thrown in along the way. Bracing for increased levels of spice in book 2, I have a feeling I'm gonna learn some things...

5.0 out of 5 stars A dark and delicious fairytale retelling perfect for fans of the Fall of Under Series

A RUIN OF ROSES!

All hail the queen of fuckery, her royal heinous K.F. Breene!
Our queen doesn’t do things by halves and this book is a prime example of that. A dark Beauty and the Beast retelling with lots and lots of smut. You’ve been warned to have those pearls ready for clutching, and you’ll be clutching them.
This book was everything I expected and then some. Very different to her other series this book will leave you wanting more!
I think what I enjoyed most was the humour. It’s hard to find books that are dark and smutty while also having some laugh out loud hilarious moments. Finley our MFC is smart, funny, independent and doesn’t take any sh!t. She’s knows what she wants and is no damsel in distress.
The chemistry between her an Nyfain was addicting. Although I did find him extremely frustrating at times. Our rough around the edges anti-hero who’s default is dark and brooding. He has more mood swings than a pendulum clock. Frustrating as he was I get it though, it added to the whole push pull dynamic between him and Finley to build that explosive chemistry to exploding point.
I don’t normally go into detail about the supporting characters but I have to stop and mention Hadriel. He is a hoot. The gay best friend we all wish we had, he is fabulous while also being hilarious and an unapologetic drunk.
This book is definitely not for everyone, but if you like your books dark with a lot of smut and have little to no triggers then you’ve come to the right place.
Also if you’re a fan of the Fall of Under series by Kathryn Ann Kingsley then this will be right up your alley.

What a delicious reimagining of beauty and the beast. So spicy, the fmc so strong and stubborn, the prickly beast with endearing qualities, and the humour love it all. Love KF Breene, need more now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cliffhanger alert!

Finley is a shifter, who has never been able to shift. The kingdom was cursed before she was of age, and as a result she’s never even met her animal.

She does have a way with the everlass plant though, and has devised many elixirs to help heal, soothe, and most importantly: pause the sickness.

Finley has taken some risks over the years to harvest everlass from the Forbidden Forest when her stocks are low. Twice she has been almost caught by the beast who roams and protects the forest. But one night, he turns up at her house to cart her away for her crimes. She goes with him to save her family, only to discover that he isn’t just a beast after all. He is a man. A handsome, surly, grumpy man, covered in scars and ink. The last of the nobles, dutifully bound to protect the forest at night.

An unforeseen side effect of being around the beast, Nyfain? Her animal within surges to life. She wants to mate with Nyfain’s animal and keeps pushing Finley to cave. Can Finley and Nyfain fight their own animals? Or does their attraction stem to their human sides too, even if they’re both too stubborn to admit it?

It’s a cliffhanger! I did not know this! I need the next book now please! I really need to stop going in so blind.

A dark and dirty retelling of beauty and the beast with Breene’s trademark sardonic humour laced throughout. I absolutely love her insults and swear words, some of which are intrinsically rude, and others which are just surprising and hilarious.

There is a lot of talk about sex, and a lot of sex happening in a…scenic?…way. But not as much happening between the main characters. I think this book is mostly the delicious build-up before the explosion (hopefully) in book 2. Thank goddess it comes out next week! I’m off to pre-order.

Loved Loved Loved this story, the Dark humour was hilarious, it was deliciously smutty, spicy, snarky and highly imaginative. The kinky goings on in the castle made my pulse race and had me laughing my ass off too. JUST WOW!!!

Nyfain and Finley were fantastic characters, Finley was a straight talking foul mouthed badass, she's strong, brave, fierce and compassionate.
Nyfain was definitely the strong silent type, he's dark with a dangerous side but he's also a man with honour and integrity when it comes to his Kingdom.

I'm looking forward to part two, I know there's a lot more to come. The blossoming naughty relationship between Finley and Nyfain has me very intrigued. Their connection was intense, passionate, dangerous and delicious, I I need more.

A rather intriguing dark twisted beauty and the beast trope. Strong female character with a wicked sense of humour and sense of survival. Cursed lands gives us demons and weird creatures lurking in the forests. Some interesting botany makes the story a little witchy. A very entertaining read, kept me gripped with in its talons. The sexual tension is swoonworthy and OMG hot. A flamboyant butler, risqué ladies maid, all kinds of debauchery, making a her clutch her string of pearls. Highly recommended to readers that enjoy shifters, demons, sexual tension. Please note no conclusion in this book but not cliff hangerish either but a to be continued rather. Looking forward to next book.
