5.0 out of 5 starsCompelling, a little naughty and a great story
Reviewed in Australia on 8 October 2021
Totally spoiler free but OMG what an ending. I kind of hate myself for reading it the day it came out as now I have to wait until November! 😬😭

KF Brenne books are always hilarious and I really enjoy her unique characters. This book was no different, although it did have some surprising sexual situations! Finley was a strong character who didn't take rubbish from anyone, and Nyfain-the-sometimes-jerk was compelling. I loved Finleys' connection with her family and how they drove her to try and help the Kingdom.

If you haven't tried K F Breene you are missing out.

3.0 out of 5 starsGreat story but left me conflicted
Reviewed in Australia on 24 October 2021
I really liked the storyline in this take on Beauty and the Beast, but I am conflicted. I am all for the broody hero, though we find he is more layered as the story continues. Our heroine is tough without being invulnerable and I am curious to learn more about her repressed animal, though I have my suspicions.
I'm not generally a prude but the graphic, in-your-face language and scenarios, particularly the Hadriel character, seemed overly aggressive and killed the romance element for me at times. The regular use of the c bomb is a huge turn off for me and the sudden urge the characters seemed to have to talk dirty in the middle of other issues was a bit jolting.
With that said, if you can look past the list interludes, there was action, adventure and world building that make me want to search up the second installment to see what happens next.

4.0 out of 5 stars A spicy retelling of Beauty and the Beast!
Reviewed in Australia on 28 November 2021

This is the start of a deliciously new dark fantasy series penned by author KFB, with a great storyline and loads of heat!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Our heroine is Finley Mosgrove, a strong and highly intelligent healer, who lives in a small village that borders an enchanted forest. Desperate to save her dying father from the devastating dying sickness that has hit her village, she ventures into the forbidden forest to collect the leaves of the everlass plant, which she uses to brew a draft that seems to slow down the effects of the sickness, and therefore extending life of the patient; but unfortunately it is not a cure.

Guarding the forest and the everlass plants is a large ferocious dragon, who shifts into a gorgeous alpha man and the Hero of our story, Nyfain - the crowned prince of the Wyvern kingdom.

This is not your normal every day retelling of the Beauty and the Beast fairytale, but it’s pretty damn good. The storyline is intricate and interesting and completely different to any of the other retellings I’ve ever read before, and the interaction between the MCs is hot and full of sexual tension. The book ends abruptly on a cliffhanger, so I’m looking forward to continue this story with book two.

Fantastic! This story has me hooked, even with that cliffhanger.
Finley is a clever warrior - taking care of her family in all the ways she can. She’s almost fearless.
And Hadriel is a cracker of a character, love him. And Nyfain,he’s hiding something, but what?
There’s more going on here than meets the eye, and I can not wait until the next book is out.
Highly recommend this, and any book by K. F. Breene, really.

1.0 out of 5 stars A dark fairytale

A kind and fearless Finley desperate to save her family. A warrior prince cursed by the Demon King who has lost everything. Both of them not willing to compromise or work together, all could be lost. Their sexual attraction is off the charts, it is a shame they cannot talk to each other enough to save themselves or each other. Nyfain is a tough character, a warrior prince, cursed and he has lost everything. Finley has lost her mother and soon her father will follow but she never gives up hope. If only she could inspire the prince to keep fighting otherwise all will be lost. Never underestimate a woman who has something worth fighting for.

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique take on Beauty and the Beast

What an opener!

I was in the mood for a strong heroine that still held onto her sweetness and empathy. Finley is just that and at the same time…bloody hilarious. She’s smart, resilient and doesn’t put up with the beast Nyfain’s BS. Expect some back and forth between them and a little bit of whiplash - but you won’t be disappointed with the redemption.

I loved that Finley’s world doesn’t stop because of Nyfain, she holds onto her own interests and passions and develops some fantastic friendships. Namely, I cannot get over Hadriel the (extremely bad at his job) butler.

The world building and story that is slowly unfolding about the curse is quite unique and intriguing. I have a feeling this will go in a direction I won’t be expecting. I can’t wait to see Finley continue to grow into her own strength, Hadriel get himself into ridiculous (and perverse situations) and Nyfain try and fail to resist what we all know is meant to be.

Spoiler(ish) favourite quote:

“I see you, Finley. That is what I wanted to say. I see all of you, and you are beautiful.”

5.0 out of 5 stars A dark and delicious fairytale retelling perfect for fans of the Fall of Under Series

A RUIN OF ROSES!

All hail the queen of fuckery, her royal heinous K.F. Breene!
Our queen doesn’t do things by halves and this book is a prime example of that. A dark Beauty and the Beast retelling with lots and lots of smut. You’ve been warned to have those pearls ready for clutching, and you’ll be clutching them.
This book was everything I expected and then some. Very different to her other series this book will leave you wanting more!
I think what I enjoyed most was the humour. It’s hard to find books that are dark and smutty while also having some laugh out loud hilarious moments. Finley our MFC is smart, funny, independent and doesn’t take any sh!t. She’s knows what she wants and is no damsel in distress.
The chemistry between her an Nyfain was addicting. Although I did find him extremely frustrating at times. Our rough around the edges anti-hero who’s default is dark and brooding. He has more mood swings than a pendulum clock. Frustrating as he was I get it though, it added to the whole push pull dynamic between him and Finley to build that explosive chemistry to exploding point.
I don’t normally go into detail about the supporting characters but I have to stop and mention Hadriel. He is a hoot. The gay best friend we all wish we had, he is fabulous while also being hilarious and an unapologetic drunk.
This book is definitely not for everyone, but if you like your books dark with a lot of smut and have little to no triggers then you’ve come to the right place.
Also if you’re a fan of the Fall of Under series by Kathryn Ann Kingsley then this will be right up your alley.

Nyfain and Finley, beauty and the beast story
She is another author I won’t hesitate to just buy. Always have loved her writing and with this book and she went well over her normal kind of writing style
Well, a new K.F. Breene series you say .. let’s read this you say.. well be ready for a shock from your normal storyline’s from this amazing writer..
If you loved her other books be ready for this one to be better darker and sexier,
This is an 18+ over ONLY dark and delicious steamy read, it is in no way meant for underage YA readers!.
Well k f breene has truly out did her self with this twisted hot sexy fairytale..
I always enjoyed her sex scenes from her other series but never realized how most of them were “vanilla” till now. K f breene has a way with words and building a story line that grabs your attention and wow did she get my attention. World building is amazing and the characters and side characters are what we expect from this amazing author

No spoilers 😊 Yes, there’s language most foul, yes there’s sex most steamy (so if you’re not keen on either of those, or cliffhangers, I’d give this series a miss) - which I loved - but there’s also a great story with characters you become invested in. There are good authors, there are really good authors, and then there are the rare authors that are a bit special. K.f. Breene is one of the latter, imho. I swear she could rewrite the telephone directory and I’d become absorbed in it and glued to every word! Even when writing tongue in cheek, fabulousness runs from her head and drips off her fingers onto the keyboard and into the book; it can’t be helped it seems 🤷🏼‍♀️😄 As with all her other series I’ve read, it wasn’t long before I was sucked in (pun not intended, but hey it works) and enraptured with the story, the characters, their banter and interactions. Obvs loved Finley and Nyfain, but Hadriel is a star, what an unexpected delight, loved him. And ohhh that ending! Sooo looking forward to the next book, I already know this is going to be a series I’ll re-read, probably several times. Deliciously dark indeed 🌹♥️
