5.0 out of 5 starsCompelling, a little naughty and a great story
Reviewed in Australia on 8 October 2021
Totally spoiler free but OMG what an ending. I kind of hate myself for reading it the day it came out as now I have to wait until November! 😬😭

KF Brenne books are always hilarious and I really enjoy her unique characters. This book was no different, although it did have some surprising sexual situations! Finley was a strong character who didn't take rubbish from anyone, and Nyfain-the-sometimes-jerk was compelling. I loved Finleys' connection with her family and how they drove her to try and help the Kingdom.

If you haven't tried K F Breene you are missing out.

3.0 out of 5 starsGreat story but left me conflicted
Reviewed in Australia on 24 October 2021
I really liked the storyline in this take on Beauty and the Beast, but I am conflicted. I am all for the broody hero, though we find he is more layered as the story continues. Our heroine is tough without being invulnerable and I am curious to learn more about her repressed animal, though I have my suspicions.
I'm not generally a prude but the graphic, in-your-face language and scenarios, particularly the Hadriel character, seemed overly aggressive and killed the romance element for me at times. The regular use of the c bomb is a huge turn off for me and the sudden urge the characters seemed to have to talk dirty in the middle of other issues was a bit jolting.
With that said, if you can look past the list interludes, there was action, adventure and world building that make me want to search up the second installment to see what happens next.

4.0 out of 5 stars A spicy retelling of Beauty and the Beast!

This is the start of a deliciously new dark fantasy series penned by author KFB, with a great storyline and loads of heat!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Our heroine is Finley Mosgrove, a strong and highly intelligent healer, who lives in a small village that borders an enchanted forest. Desperate to save her dying father from the devastating dying sickness that has hit her village, she ventures into the forbidden forest to collect the leaves of the everlass plant, which she uses to brew a draft that seems to slow down the effects of the sickness, and therefore extending life of the patient; but unfortunately it is not a cure.

Guarding the forest and the everlass plants is a large ferocious dragon, who shifts into a gorgeous alpha man and the Hero of our story, Nyfain - the crowned prince of the Wyvern kingdom.

This is not your normal every day retelling of the Beauty and the Beast fairytale, but it’s pretty damn good. The storyline is intricate and interesting and completely different to any of the other retellings I’ve ever read before, and the interaction between the MCs is hot and full of sexual tension. The book ends abruptly on a cliffhanger, so I’m looking forward to continue this story with book two.

My god that woman can write!! Loved the side characters, the main character, the main interest. Love their depth, chemistry, the humour! So many laugh out loud moments! The people felt real, relatable, honest. Absolutely fantastic. If you like a bit of smut in your books but also a bloody good storyline, purchase immediately. It’s a good time. This is my new favourite series. AAA+ and all of the stars.

Loved the characters and the storyline. Looking forward to the next book. This one hooked me up and reeled me in. A bit too graphic for innocent eyes.

Nyfain and Finley, beauty and the beast story
She is another author I won’t hesitate to just buy. Always have loved her writing and with this book and she went well over her normal kind of writing style
Well, a new K.F. Breene series you say .. let’s read this you say.. well be ready for a shock from your normal storyline’s from this amazing writer..
If you loved her other books be ready for this one to be better darker and sexier,
This is an 18+ over ONLY dark and delicious steamy read, it is in no way meant for underage YA readers!.
Well k f breene has truly out did her self with this twisted hot sexy fairytale..
I always enjoyed her sex scenes from her other series but never realized how most of them were “vanilla” till now. K f breene has a way with words and building a story line that grabs your attention and wow did she get my attention. World building is amazing and the characters and side characters are what we expect from this amazing author

I’m not sure what to make if this overall tbh. Classic beauty and the beast premise with some interesting and imaginative angles. Not a wow book as there weren’t really any unexpected twists but I think that KF Breene usually brings characters to life well, though hit and miss through the different series. The thing that really jarred for me throughout was the sex scenes, I find them to be clunky and a bit misplaced - there’s no development or finesse aligned to character growth or story arc, they just kind of smack you in the face without really adding anything to the narrative, the characters or progression - if anything after a while i found it irritating and distracting and would have preferred and r rated version that didn’t go there at all but focussed on the storyline. Don’t get me wrong i like a bit of escapist sizzle, but this felt very clumsy and there for the sake of it. Not sure I’ll bother with next in series if it’s more of the same which is a shame as there are good bones to this series. Made me wonder who’s editing or whether we are just down to formula

Absolutely loved the storyline of this book, the constant will they, won’t they, laced through the pages as we got to know the main characters and how their lives had been ruled by circumstances they were unable to have any effect on. Can’t wait for the next one!

There storyline is very simple, there are many repetition of emotions and the book seems to have a slow progress. Yet it's an easy read, the writing flows and hope the next one is better.

Really enjoyed the story and yes there’s a Beauty and the Beast element, but there’s enough other storyline for it to more than stand on its own two feet. And that ending….bring on book 2!
