5.0 out of 5 starsCompelling, a little naughty and a great story
Reviewed in Australia on 8 October 2021
Totally spoiler free but OMG what an ending. I kind of hate myself for reading it the day it came out as now I have to wait until November! 😬😭

KF Brenne books are always hilarious and I really enjoy her unique characters. This book was no different, although it did have some surprising sexual situations! Finley was a strong character who didn't take rubbish from anyone, and Nyfain-the-sometimes-jerk was compelling. I loved Finleys' connection with her family and how they drove her to try and help the Kingdom.

If you haven't tried K F Breene you are missing out.

3.0 out of 5 starsGreat story but left me conflicted
Reviewed in Australia on 24 October 2021
I really liked the storyline in this take on Beauty and the Beast, but I am conflicted. I am all for the broody hero, though we find he is more layered as the story continues. Our heroine is tough without being invulnerable and I am curious to learn more about her repressed animal, though I have my suspicions.
I'm not generally a prude but the graphic, in-your-face language and scenarios, particularly the Hadriel character, seemed overly aggressive and killed the romance element for me at times. The regular use of the c bomb is a huge turn off for me and the sudden urge the characters seemed to have to talk dirty in the middle of other issues was a bit jolting.
With that said, if you can look past the list interludes, there was action, adventure and world building that make me want to search up the second installment to see what happens next.

3.0 out of 5 stars So how do I rate this?

I enjoyed the Demigods of SF, DDVN, Midlife, etc.. So, now I moved on to the newest collection and I am not hooked. Yes the ending makes you want to continue on, but the middle did little to captivate me. I enjoyed life at her home village before and after. The siblings are interesting and make you want more of them especially in the final chapters. I have no qualms about sexual prowess but the castle life didn’t help me build on the main characters personalities, at this time it felt more like a backdrop. I am not sure how to explain it well. I did get bits of information from that time and although there are tidbits of the original beauty and the beast fairytale and follows much of the impactful moment of its storyline, there are add-ons and twists. When book 2 comes out, I will reread this book and update my review if I have different thoughts then.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fun read!!! A really good fantasy retelling of B&TB 💜🖤
Reviewed in the United States on 11 October 2021

I may be biased because Beauty & the Beast (original & new retellings) have been my favorite fantasy storyline since childhood! 😍

So...I've gone through many retellings lol

This 1 brought the fun of crude humor; which enhanced an already loved story, for me! I have not finished this book yet (I'm halfway done); but I wanted to review it now, before life happenings makes me forget to lol

The backstory of a world is what truly sets a retelling apart. This is no cookie-cutter Belle or Beast. Belle's fiery wit & intellect is heightened. Warning.... she has common sense!!! Such a welcomed change from authors wanting to have moronic heroines!!! The Beast feels lovable from the beginning, in that Alpha-hole way we know & love ❤. Side characters feel real & have a depth that's not typical of this story! We get an antagonist that is not a "Gaston"; instead, it's a whole species & their leader!

The pace feels OK. There are some moments that would have done well with further exploration. Idk if those points will be revisited later on; so I'm holding judgment to see if more is discussed. Same thing with the backstories of all the main characters. I can assume more info will unfold & current questions I have will be answered. I shall see as I continue!

If you enjoy fairytale retellings, you absolutely must read this book! I noticed other retellings the author did & will definitely be checking those out after this!

1.0 out of 5 stars horrible

This book is horrible. I normally never give 1 star but the plot and storyline make no sense. Every other work is f$&@. Remove those and the book would be a novella. Also It seems to just be a vehicle to make disgusting sexual comments, filled with no consensual sex acts and almost sex acts and is poorly written. I love a good well written spicy book but that is not what this book is. Don’t waste your time. The storyline isn’t worth it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my cup of tea.

I normally enjoy Ms. Breene’s novels and have read almost all of them. This book, however, was ultimately too much In fact, it was mostly pornographic. I'm no prude by any stretch of the imagination. But the sex scenes grew to be redundant, gratuitous and unnecessary, and did nothing to further the storyline. If you want to write eroticism, knock yourself out. I'm not judging. But I think it would be better served under a pseudonym. I'm sorry but I won't be reading book #2.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Good!!

I was kind of skeptical about reading another Beauty and the Beast retelling, but I'm so glad I did! There are hints here and there of the story we know from Disney's Beauty and The Beast, but K.F. Breene has made this her own. She blended Beauty and the Beast with shifters so well that it seems like that was the original storyline all along.

As for the storyline, I love how Finley doesn't let Nyfain tell her what to do. She is her own person, and nothing is going to get in her way. She is strong and independent in a time when that's not acceptable for women.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Dark And Very Spicy

If you're looking for a story that has a combative couple, with lots of hot spicy action... then look no further. This is hot, spicy and deliciously seductive.

Finley is a very headstrong woman, Nyfain is a very dominant alpha, mix them together and you a have a recipe for some good dialogue. Hadriel and Leala are two awesome secondary characters. Hadriel is as colorful as he is hilarious.

This is a fantasy book with very adult content, and a storyline that is quite immersive. I read this book a lot quicker than I thought I would. This is not my usual type of fantasy read, but I will be exploring book two. I am very much invested in Finley and Nyfain's journey.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something new-ish, less dismal damsels
Reviewed in the United States on 9 October 2021

I’m wary about fairy tale remakes. I feel like they are too restricted to the well worn single storyline to bring anything engaging or new. I often find them something of a yawn as they roll out all the usual tropes; in this case of innocents, sacrifice, roses and libraries. This adult version feels pretty awkward at first. But it’s fun to see Breene trying something new.

While starting very slow, this beauty and the beast remake is saved by its new threads of paranormals, demons, special herbs and a new bad guy inserted into the old story. Deftly handling the dismal damsel overtones of these fairy tales, this book builds to a great conclusion and intro into the next. Breene wrestled this old tale into something good.

Four stars for a better beauty and the beast.

4.0 out of 5 stars X rated beauty & the beast
Reviewed in the United States on 17 December 2021

I love the storyline even though it is similar to beauty & the beast, yet not really. The sexual content is definitely x rated and sometimes over done. That is the only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star rating.

I felt like sexual interaction could have been a little less x rate and a little less front and center in the storyline. I felt the storyline and the character development suffered slightly because the sexual content took up too much of the storyline and limited the character development.

I have no doubt this author is talented and shows great skill in world, story, and character development. Hopefully, book two is a little sexually driven and more character & story driven.

4.0 out of 5 stars cliffhanger but all of her books are worth it.

So far this is a great beauty and the beast retelling.

It’s just getting started though. The two main characters are pretty amazing and the twist on the original story is interesting.

Well plotted and really funny at times. It’s got action and a huge mystery that’s only beginning to unfold.

Lots more kinky sexy stuff than any of her other books. But it doesn’t bother me and goes with the storyline. It also adds to the laughs.

If you hate cliffhangers then I would advise waiting till the series is finished. But I absolutely love this author and believe it is worth waiting for.
