5.0 out of 5 starsCompelling, a little naughty and a great story
Reviewed in Australia on 8 October 2021
Totally spoiler free but OMG what an ending. I kind of hate myself for reading it the day it came out as now I have to wait until November! 😬😭

KF Brenne books are always hilarious and I really enjoy her unique characters. This book was no different, although it did have some surprising sexual situations! Finley was a strong character who didn't take rubbish from anyone, and Nyfain-the-sometimes-jerk was compelling. I loved Finleys' connection with her family and how they drove her to try and help the Kingdom.

If you haven't tried K F Breene you are missing out.

3.0 out of 5 starsGreat story but left me conflicted
Reviewed in Australia on 24 October 2021
I really liked the storyline in this take on Beauty and the Beast, but I am conflicted. I am all for the broody hero, though we find he is more layered as the story continues. Our heroine is tough without being invulnerable and I am curious to learn more about her repressed animal, though I have my suspicions.
I'm not generally a prude but the graphic, in-your-face language and scenarios, particularly the Hadriel character, seemed overly aggressive and killed the romance element for me at times. The regular use of the c bomb is a huge turn off for me and the sudden urge the characters seemed to have to talk dirty in the middle of other issues was a bit jolting.
With that said, if you can look past the list interludes, there was action, adventure and world building that make me want to search up the second installment to see what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique take on Beauty and the Beast

What an opener!

I was in the mood for a strong heroine that still held onto her sweetness and empathy. Finley is just that and at the same time…bloody hilarious. She’s smart, resilient and doesn’t put up with the beast Nyfain’s BS. Expect some back and forth between them and a little bit of whiplash - but you won’t be disappointed with the redemption.

I loved that Finley’s world doesn’t stop because of Nyfain, she holds onto her own interests and passions and develops some fantastic friendships. Namely, I cannot get over Hadriel the (extremely bad at his job) butler.

The world building and story that is slowly unfolding about the curse is quite unique and intriguing. I have a feeling this will go in a direction I won’t be expecting. I can’t wait to see Finley continue to grow into her own strength, Hadriel get himself into ridiculous (and perverse situations) and Nyfain try and fail to resist what we all know is meant to be.

Spoiler(ish) favourite quote:

“I see you, Finley. That is what I wanted to say. I see all of you, and you are beautiful.”

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 - good read

This one is a tough one to write a review.
3.5 stars - the world building is good, the character arcs are good too. I have the other two books in the series and will definitely read.
The smut is great! I just feel like the story got a little confusing for “why’s”. I needed my details as to Why is the world the way it is, why does the curse effect, etc etc.
But it was still enjoyable and I am interested to see what happens in the next two.

Nyfain and Finley, beauty and the beast story
She is another author I won’t hesitate to just buy. Always have loved her writing and with this book and she went well over her normal kind of writing style
Well, a new K.F. Breene series you say .. let’s read this you say.. well be ready for a shock from your normal storyline’s from this amazing writer..
If you loved her other books be ready for this one to be better darker and sexier,
This is an 18+ over ONLY dark and delicious steamy read, it is in no way meant for underage YA readers!.
Well k f breene has truly out did her self with this twisted hot sexy fairytale..
I always enjoyed her sex scenes from her other series but never realized how most of them were “vanilla” till now. K f breene has a way with words and building a story line that grabs your attention and wow did she get my attention. World building is amazing and the characters and side characters are what we expect from this amazing author

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing read from an author I normally love

I had high hopes for this book initially. It’s by an author that I really rate, it’s a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and the sample was great - snarking funny with an interesting set up.
I feel like the world building is good overall and it’s something KF Breene always does well.
However I felt I was reading an early draft - grammatical errors that pulled me out of the story, timelines didn’t always work and it felt disjointed and rushed. I also didn’t warm to the male lead character.
Not sure if I’ll finish this book or move onto the sequel.

Wow! I loved this book from beginning to end other than the fact that I’m left hanging until the next book!! I had so many laugh out loud moments….I just love Finley’s character as well as spicier Finley. I laughed at myself too when I started humming the song “Belle” as I was reading when Finley walked into town and people were saying hi to her. This version of the story is not quite Disney-approved with the amount of spice soaking through the pages…I’m not complaining. The world building and the character building is spectacular. I’m hooked and waiting impatiently for the next book to come out. Please try for any earlier release date!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beauty and the beast where beauty kicks ass

Beauty and the beast retelling except beauty kicks some major ass. This book (like all her others), is enthralling. It’s sucks you into a different world completely. I literally couldn’t put this down. The MC is strong but compassionate. She’s everything you want in a main character, she has snark, a heart, strong willed, super smart and I kind of want to be her when I grow up. Side characters are quirky and I fell instantly in love with them! World building was great without being overwhelming and easy to follow. The plot is intriguing and the love interest…🥵. Of course it includes humor that the author is known for! I can’t wait for book two already!

1.0 out of 5 stars What did I just read

No seriously. Someone please explain.

So I picked this up because I've been into beauty and the beast retellings and I've read this author before and really enjoyed the book.

But this....this was something else. I'm no prude and I love a good time in my romance but from ch 4 all anyone talked about was sex. Literally every character. We got no real world building (what year was this because they are trapped in the magic realm but speak like present day humans) I had no idea what any surrounding looked like but I sure heard a lot about dropping wet things. Even when one of the characters was close to death that's all they talked about was sex. I enjoy a build up but you got none of that here.

I could have just read something similar on a free smut website.
