I could save him, but he would ruin me.
The beast.
The creature that stalks the forbidden wood.
The dragon prince.
He has suffered a fate worse than death. We all have. A curse put upon us by the mad king.
We are a kingdom locked in time. Shifters unable to feel our animals. Stuck here by a deal between the late king and a demon who seeks our destruction.
The only one keeping this kingdom alive is Nyfain, the golden prince to a stolen throne. The last dragon shifter.
He's our hope.
He's my nightmare.
When he catches me trespassing in the forbidden wood, he doesn't punish me with death, as he's entitled.
He takes me, instead. Forces me back to the castle as his prisoner. Seeks to use me.
Apparently, I can save him. I can save the whole forgotten kingdom, locked away by the demon king's power.
But it would mean taming the monster beneath his skin. It would mean giving myself to him.
It would mean my ruin.
This is a dark and spicy Beauty and the Beast retelling featuring an anti-hero, a strong heroine, and a humorous supporting cast. This is an enemies-to-lovers and possible fated mates story suitable for 18+. It's the first of a trilogy, ending on a cliffhanger.

I'm not generally a prude but the graphic, in-your-face language and scenarios, particularly the Hadriel character, seemed overly aggressive and killed the romance element for me at times. The regular use of the c bomb is a huge turn off for me and the sudden urge the characters seemed to have to talk dirty in the middle of other issues was a bit jolting.
With that said, if you can look past the list interludes, there was action, adventure and world building that make me want to search up the second installment to see what happens next.
KF Brenne books are always hilarious and I really enjoy her unique characters. This book was no different, although it did have some surprising sexual situations! Finley was a strong character who didn't take rubbish from anyone, and Nyfain-the-sometimes-jerk was compelling. I loved Finleys' connection with her family and how they drove her to try and help the Kingdom.
If you haven't tried K F Breene you are missing out.
Our heroine is Finley Mosgrove, a strong and highly intelligent healer, who lives in a small village that borders an enchanted forest. Desperate to save her dying father from the devastating dying sickness that has hit her village, she ventures into the forbidden forest to collect the leaves of the everlass plant, which she uses to brew a draft that seems to slow down the effects of the sickness, and therefore extending life of the patient; but unfortunately it is not a cure.
Guarding the forest and the everlass plants is a large ferocious dragon, who shifts into a gorgeous alpha man and the Hero of our story, Nyfain - the crowned prince of the Wyvern kingdom.
This is not your normal every day retelling of the Beauty and the Beast fairytale, but it’s pretty damn good. The storyline is intricate and interesting and completely different to any of the other retellings I’ve ever read before, and the interaction between the MCs is hot and full of sexual tension. The book ends abruptly on a cliffhanger, so I’m looking forward to continue this story with book two.
Finley is a clever warrior - taking care of her family in all the ways she can. She’s almost fearless.
And Hadriel is a cracker of a character, love him. And Nyfain,he’s hiding something, but what?
There’s more going on here than meets the eye, and I can not wait until the next book is out.
Highly recommend this, and any book by K. F. Breene, really.
This book however had me gripped to each and every page until I came to the last one and that was it!! Not and ending just a place card until the next book and I find while I’m feeling down and deflated because I was so looking forward to a battle and then a brilliant ending that just didn’t happen but hey I’ll give the next book a go and see what it’s like because even though I’m not happy with the end of this one I’m hoping the beginning of the next will grab again as the beginning of this one did.
Finley is amazing by the way my new favourite heroine.
I really enjoyed this retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
I loved the story that K.F Breene has threaded through the original tale and made it her own unique story.
It was nearly over the top with the dirty talk but I overlooked that with the comedic relief that was particularly supplied by one of the characters.
There is a strong heroine and a down trodden feeling sorry for himself yet still an alpha MC and the side characters are also pretty good.
The cliffhanger left a lot to be developed and understood, so I am looking forward to the next book.

Finley is a tough as nails takes no prisoners heroine unlike beauty from the fairytale and I love her more for it. She is smart and quick witted but with the biggest heart and a need to help those that need it... enter Nyfain a deeply damaged beast. He snarls and snaps and makes her angry beyond reason.
I love the character interaction, as K.F.Breene always does she hooks me and I end up truly invested in their story and wellbeing.
The castle was not as expected and nothing like the Disney adaption. I spent a lot of time laughing or at least smirking whilst reading, I won't say anything else to ruin the fun.
My only criticism... you can't leave it there!!! I need the next book as soon as possible!!

She does have a way with the everlass plant though, and has devised many elixirs to help heal, soothe, and most importantly: pause the sickness.
Finley has taken some risks over the years to harvest everlass from the Forbidden Forest when her stocks are low. Twice she has been almost caught by the beast who roams and protects the forest. But one night, he turns up at her house to cart her away for her crimes. She goes with him to save her family, only to discover that he isn’t just a beast after all. He is a man. A handsome, surly, grumpy man, covered in scars and ink. The last of the nobles, dutifully bound to protect the forest at night.
An unforeseen side effect of being around the beast, Nyfain? Her animal within surges to life. She wants to mate with Nyfain’s animal and keeps pushing Finley to cave. Can Finley and Nyfain fight their own animals? Or does their attraction stem to their human sides too, even if they’re both too stubborn to admit it?
It’s a cliffhanger! I did not know this! I need the next book now please! I really need to stop going in so blind.
A dark and dirty retelling of beauty and the beast with Breene’s trademark sardonic humour laced throughout. I absolutely love her insults and swear words, some of which are intrinsically rude, and others which are just surprising and hilarious.
There is a lot of talk about sex, and a lot of sex happening in a…scenic?…way. But not as much happening between the main characters. I think this book is mostly the delicious build-up before the explosion (hopefully) in book 2. Thank goddess it comes out next week! I’m off to pre-order.

Finally I took a, moment to sit and read.. I couldn't put it down! Oh man it's amazing.. A story we all know and yet we have no idea at the same time.. I adore Breenes writing style.. She's so sophisticated including the smut..
I'm in for the long haul.. Eagerly awaiting book 2.. Also Hadriel is like my spirit animal

I didn't enjoy the writing, it made it very difficult to follow the story sometimes, it was difficult to get who was talking at times too. Things would happen and I'd have to go back and see if I'd missed something because it didn't flow and make sense and I hadn't missed anything, it just went to this dramatic event.
I will read the next few books just because I want to know what happens and the story has potential.
