Run and Hide isn’t a spin-off, but it is set in the same world ar Tom Gray, and hence some familiar faces make an appearance, drawing the characters’ worlds together. In this story, there are powerful forces at work, and it is soon clear that Eva Driscoll is facing more than just a rogue team.
I mentioned the risk of starting a new series. The best way of dealing with risk is to mitigate it, and Alan has used all the right ingredients to pull it off: great writer; a fantastic kick-ass protagonist in Eva Driscoll; a decent plot: and all of this wrapped up in a fast-paced novel. Great stuff!
Push the accelerator to the floor and hang on. This is one fast-paced, action packed ride as CIA agent, Eva Driscoll, finds herself the hunted instead of the hunter. Used to clearing up problems covertly, she knows something is wrong the moment her brother dies. Refusing to believe he killed himself, she soon discovers other members of his army unit have also died suddenly. She saves Rees Colback, the last member of the unit, and together they set out to discover who’s trying to destroy them and why.
Their search for the truth is carried out on the run, fighting for their lives against the agencies that were once her employers. But Eva’s too smart to run and takes the fight to the enemy, despite the odds against her for a furious climax that still manages a neat twist.
It’s action all the way. The pace is frenetic, the characters sharp and believable, and the story never sags or lets up, leading you to a breathless climax. While this isn’t my usual kind of read, I was caught up in the story from the opening pages and enjoyed every minute.
If you like an action packed thriller where the good guys are up against overwhelming odds, you should enjoy this. And with more books in the series, there’s plenty to look forward to.
I'm now going back to the start of the Gray books, and will probably have finished them by the time Eva D Book 2 comes out in November.
This book certainly sets a breakneck pace, as you are thrown into the action straight away... Ex - CIA operative Eva Driscoll is investigating her brothers suicide and to this end she enlists the help of Rees Colback who served in the same special forces unit as her brother... A shadowy global organisation will stop at nothing to cover up an op that went bad... With unlimited forces and resources against them Eva and Rees are soon on the run from every agency out there.... If they are going to go from hunted to hunters they are going to need help.
This is a conspiracy theory lovers dream as a cabal with fingers in nearly every government and media outlet across the world pull strings that you would like to think is impossible outside of a good book.... Not that they haven't met their match.... As Eva is a one woman killing machine, able to pretty much out think, out fight and out maneuver all comers... With the arrival of a few familiar faces ( to readers of the Grey books) the scene is set for a showdown of epic proportions...
