Product description
Made entirely of Scottish film archive, From Scotland With Love is a 75-minute film by award winning director Virginia Heath with a transcendent score by Scottish musician and composer King Creosote's. A journey into our collective past, the film explores the universal themes of love, loss resistance, migration, work and play. Ordinary people, some long since dead, their names and identities largely forgotten, appear shimmering from the depth of the vault to take a starring role. Brilliantly edited together, these silent individuals become composite characters, who emerge to tell us their stories, given voice by King Creosote s poetic music and lyrics.

An Exceptional Documentary

I've pre-ordered this, having been impressed by it on TV. I loved the way that it turned my expectations upside down. Instead of being a quiet unpopulated country it turns out that Scotland is seething with people, who cannot stop moving, are always going somewhere, and might start running at the least provocation. I enjoyed the fact that the film made me want to view everything like Picasso, seeing places from all angles and in all time periods simultaneously. I was impressed by the apparent ease with which it presented me with hundreds of stories, all complete, comprehensible and fascinating, although some of them lasted mere seconds, and how the stories needed no explanation beyond the images and the music. At one point there is a poster saying "She wears nothing but a smile", which is highly prescient as this wonderful film is going to make a lot of people smile a very great deal.

Golly this is good and with a stunning soundtrack from King Creosote to accompany the visuals. You dont have to be Scottish to appreciate this wonderful film. For anyone with a heart. It really makes you think hard about the hardships prevailed on previous generations and the love and warmth they had for each other. A film that has been made with a real depth of love and affection.

A beautiful nostalgic but modern look at Scotland, like nothing I've ever seen
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 January 2016Verified Purchase
I saw this film on TV in the runup to the Scottish independence referendum, and loved it so much I had to buy the DVD (and the CD too for the car). The music is great - I'd never heard of King Creosote but it was lovely lilting gentle music, somehow modern and nostalgic at the same time. The images show a huge variety of aspects of Scotland, holidays, work, street scenes. Altogether a picture of Scotland that I'll want to watch over and over again. I'm not a Scot, although I lived there briefly, but this is enough to make me want to be one.

Watch, listen and learn!

As amazing as I knew it would be! Ordered one for a friend to enlist another Kenny Anderson devotee. Very poignant glimpses into Scottish social history, with a King Creosote backing track,,,,what's not to like? Items arrived within estimated timescale. Another good purchase from a reliable supplier.

We loved it back

Something for Scots and the Lovers of Scotland (like us) to appreciate.
Images of people working and enjoying themselves from the archives which always proved interesting. Good soundtrack from King Creosote (but a different mix to the CD). It might benefit from sub-titles for the songs to assist the hard of hearing. We will be watching this again from time to time as there is plenty of detail here!
