This follows on from previous one where Bree has now become the local sheriff she has to juggle work and looking after her sisters children after she was killed. Luckily her friend Dana comes along and with the help of Uncle Adam and her friend Matt the children are starting to get their lives sorted. The town is struggling with murders of young people and it takes time for Bree to sort through this which takes her back to Matt to come on board and between them and local deputies solve the mystery.

I love the relationship between Bree and Matt.
The few chapters of the killers point of veiw always give me goosebumps, I like trying to figure out who it is from the 4-5 suspects were presented with.

Ex cop Bree Taggert has had to adapt to huge changes in all aspects of her life since the death of her sister. She has a new home in a town she had no intention of ever returning to, is guardian of Erin's two children and is the new sheriff. So, when a call is received from a hysterical young woman who says her friend was shot in front of her, Bree rushes to the scene uncertain of what she will find.

As things rush from a possible prank call to the hunt for a deranged serial killer, Bree calls in friend and former deputy Matt Flynn to help, along with his K-9 Brody. With missing students, a rising body count, and a probable link to multiple burglary cases in nearby Scarlet Falls the sheriff can't help wondering if she will find her killer before their rage gets the better of them again and another body is found.

This is a great read by one of the best exponents of the romantic murder mystery genre writing at the moment. The second book featuring Bree and Matt already has a familiar feel to it and they are definitely worth rooting for. An extra pleasure in this book is the appearance of favourite characters from Ms Leigh's previous series set in Scarlet Falls. It was great to see their cameo appearance and I hope others will be doing the same in future installments of this great new series.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review. I would recommend it to anyone who already loves this author or who wants an excuse to escape into a first class mystery for a while in both cases you won't be disappointed.

Loved this book. I read and enjoyed the first Bree Taggert and this is even better. I would have liked a bit more about the challenges of taking over as Sheriff and what she had to deal with from the people around her, but that’s just me nitpicking. Likeable characters, dogs, romance, crime but nothing too graphic. A nice balance and I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series which I’ve pre-ordered.

This is the 2nd book in the series that I have read. Sadly I will not be reading more. I find this author's storytelling comes across like reading bullet points at a meeting. Short sharp sentences, inconsistencies, and as for mentioning SUV. I was surprised to see that the author has written many books, I do not recall reading anything else by Melinda.
While the subject matter showed great promise it just failed to deliver.
I cannot in good faith recommend these 2 books unless they are free, if that is the case have a read, she could very well be your favourite author.

Melinda Leigh is my favourite thriller writer. All her stories keep you on the edge of your seat from page 1. This one about burglary, murder and sadistic behaviour is no exception. The story flows and switches throughout. It was also nice to meet Morgan Dane again having read all her stories which were also very enjoyable. This book as with all Melinda Leigh novels Highly recommended.
