To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
As another reviewer notes, this DVD set is better than the first part of series 6. No spoilers. But ... there's a moment here where your blood runs cold. An actual physiological reaction. Film's never done this for me. In film the turning point happens after you've invested maybe 70 minutes. With The Sopranos, by this point you've invested 70+ hours. And you just go ... wow.
It's worth pointing out though that series 6 as a whole demands a different approach from the viewer. It's less realistic in a lot of ways, so the suspension of disbelief thing needs a bit of applying. Just go with it. The production values are sky high by this point. The cast are electric here too. Anthony, Anthony Jr., Chris, Paulie, Carmela, Meadow - all these roles are acted with a conviction and balance that borders on the mediumistic.
One of the best series on television, and a fantastic finale right up to the final moment of the final episode.
The reason for 1 star dropped is for this DVD boxset version, not the series itself.
Just make sure you have received the right episodes inside as I received dvds with the episodes for the final season part one, even though all of the packaging said the episodes were for part two. Not sure if it was just a freak one-off thing- and thankfully I was refunded- but it was a bit baffling and I finished the series off with a Now TV free trial binge instead, as I couldn't wait even a day for a new box set.
Much better group of episodes than either the first part of Season 6 or earlier seasons. Darker, more exciting, bit of a cliffhanger for each episode until the last. Not sure that the famous, enigmatic final episode was what I was hoping for. I had expected something more dramatic; left me feeling a bit cheated and disappointed. Overall however still my favourite crime series of all time .... until something better comes along - still looking!
Was on holiday and someone had left the 1st series in the house we were renting, we watched it, that was it, well and truely hooked, and that was in May 09. Have brought the lot and watched the final one last week...a great series and one that will mean I will watch agian and again. We had Soprano evenings when there was nothing on the TV, and once we decided to watch one it was hard not to carry on watching.
Great type casting, there wasnt a 'weak link' in the whole series. It takes you from one emotion to another and left you thinking how can this end..?
I recomend this to anyone and am searching now ofr another series to replace our Soprano evenings ...any ideas??
This 24 episode season was actually in 2 parts and provided a fitting end to this world class series. As sometimes happened in previous seasons, the viewer became torn between empathy for Tony's ongoing problems and a desire to see justice done. In the end (sic) the viewer is left to decide exactly what happens next and of course, when nothing is 'final' the door is open for more. Given the well deserved success of this wonderful piece of TV - I for one would not be surprised and would certainly welcome more of this engaging saga
...when you've got the boxed set. What more do I need to say? If you know The Sopranos, then you don't need to read these reviews. If you don't know The Sopranos, then buy the somplete series. All of them. Then book a few days off work and lock front door and turn off the phone. Then watch them and see the best TV show ever to be made.
From the opening music to the very end of this series I was totally hooked. Its not just the main characters in it it's the whole cast that makes it such a good watch. I could watch this time and time again and never grow tired of it. Classic writing and a masterclass in acting!!
