The end of series seven saw the demise of the Laure-Gilou team, but not of their relationship together. Their unorthodox investigation methods have landed Gilou in prison, awaiting trial. Taking advantage of the situation, Crime Squad Superintendent Brémont asks him to get acquainted with a fellow prisoner who’s a high-profile criminal. In exchange for his reinstatement into the police, Gilou is taken out of prison to infiltrate a gang of heisters. Meanwhile, Laure and Ali are struggling to work as a team in a group that’s been sidelined.

The murder of a young Moroccan migrant spurs them back into action, although they have to deal with the trauma of Gilou’s incarceration. Josephine decides to defend the murder suspect – an unaccompanied Moroccan minor called Souleymane – and develops a close bond with him. Things get complicated when the cases Laure and Gilou are working on turn out to be connected. They join forces again to see their investigations through, exposing themselves to all kinds of danger.

I love this series but Season Eight was somewhat spoiled for me by the English for the hard of hearing subtitles. I really don't want subtitles that tell me a door is opening or closing, there is chattering etc. The description of the Disc stated nothing about subtitles.

One of the best police drama series ever seemingly draws to a conclusion...It is difficult to compare the first few series with 8 as the themes and style of direction have changed a great deal. As the series progress it does become less gritty and graphic (probably to appeal more to a wider audience) - however there is no let up in the quality of acting and storylines. Series 8 has it's twists and turns as and as always there is the unexpected. I don't like the over-use of subtitles - door opens - coughs - sighs etc, completely unnecessary - but doesn't detract overall. Thoroughly enjoyed it, hopefully it can continue in some way as there's little to compare.

All good things come to an end, and so it is with Spiral with the eight and final series. This has been one of the finest shows of its type ever to be brought to our screens. It has been of a consistently high quality throughout and this last series is no exception. Intelligent, exciting (sometimes the tension is almost unbearable), brilliantly acted and superbly produced. Yes, I think they've picked the right time to call it a day - it would be such a shame to see such an excellent series run out of steam and ideas - but, nonetheless, what on earth are we going to find to replace it!

The saddest time watching what I knew was the end of the best series ever.

Gilou, Laure, Bremont, Tintin et al brought so much to my viewing and I will really miss them.

It’s rough, tough, dirty work and they were focused on bringing down the baddies whilst maybe getting sidetracked on their personal lives. Engaging. Pathos. Emotional. Brilliant.

This is without doubt the best ever series .

You must buy it and watch all 8 series from the beginning (I’ve watched a few times and get something out of it each time)

So, all good things must end, and this last series lives up to the high standard of drama, twists and turns we enjoyed during the previous seasons. I miss the previous judge very much, but Laure and Gilou were an excellent team yet again. It is a very gritty and realistic series, not for the faint hearted, and does the Paris tourist board no favours, as it is centred around the seedier areas of the capital. The illegal immigrant problem is very serious, and danger lurks around every corner. One of the main characters was not a particularly pleasant person, yet various people did their best to help him. The ending was appropriate, and loose ends tied up. The subtitles were of a decent size in my opinion, but the end credits were so small that even by pausing the DVD there were illegible. I shall watch the previous seasons again, and remind myself of the interesting characters encountered in each series. On y va.
