Product description
101 Films presents Split Second (1992), a dark, dystopian thriller starring Rutger Hauer as a veteran detective on the trail of a serial killer in a rainswept future London, and title 015 on the 101 Films Black Label. Co-starring Alastair Duncan and Kim Cattrall and supported by a host of legendary British character actors, this newly restored presentation of the film is complemented with extensive new interviews with the filmmakers.
The year is 2008, and heavy rainfall has flooded large areas of London. Rookie police officer Dick Durkin (Alastair Duncan) is assigned to partner maverick Harley Stone (Rutger Hauer), a burnt-out and highly cynical homicide detective who was unable to prevent the murder of his partner by a serial killer three years earlier. Following a spate of murders, it appears that the killer has returned, and Stone and Durkin are assigned to the case. After investigating the scenes of several slayings, they appear no closer to identifying the killer, but a mysterious connection to Stone keeps the trail warm. As each gruesome murder draws the detectives closer to the killer, the killer gets closer to them, until they must finally confront the true evil that lurks below the streets of London.

by small US label MVD and it's ABC coded
the film has been given a new 4k HD scan in it's first time 1:85:1 ratio and the picture quality does look very Good
alot more sharper and clearer than the very old dvd version which was in 1:33:1 Full screen anyway
the new 4 scan is not polished so there's still some Grain and Dirt in the picture quality but again about 4 times alot better than the old dvd version my rating for the new 4k HD transfer is about 9/10,
the old dvd quality is 4/10 the sound mix is again boosted up to 2.0 master stereo mix which does sound very Good about 6/10
EXTRAS- lots of new extras many have never been officially released before
new interviews with only a few of the cast & crew, Producer Laura Gregory & actor Neil Duncan
plus the Line producer, cinematographer, creature effects artist from the film so over 1 hr worth of new interviews no new interview with Kim Cattrall so probably Declined to be interviewed
and Rutger Hauer passed away a few years ago incase you didn't know
plus new audio commentary, plus the never before released Japanese cut of the film in 1:33:1 ratio
run time is 95mins so has some extra scenes inserted back in the film that was cut from the Theatrical cut
the Japan cut is Direct transfer from master source VHS tape so picture quality is about 5-6/10
so it's only tolerable to watch in terms of picture quality, it's ofcourse English Language with Japan subtitles
at the bottom of the screen
plus few more extras the original 1992 making of featurette goes for 6min 25sec in 1:33:1 ratio from
master source VHS tape quality plus Deleted scenes from Japan cut plus original Trailer, TV spots, radio spots
all this content on 1 Disc incredible! and it's ABC coded so i give 5 stars for this new reissue worth buying for sure
Disc 1 has the 90min Theatrical cut with a new 1:85:11080p HD transfer and the picture quality does look Good
but does have some Grain and Dirt in the picture quality but overall looks more sharper and clearer
than the very old dvd version which had a very average Digital remaster, i'd give the new HD transfer 8/10
the sound mix has been boosted up to 2.0 master stereo mix which again sounds very Good 6/10
Extras on Disc 1 is just a new audio commentary track with Film Historian Mike Leeder
plus scene selection, audio setup, Language options, optional subtitles.
Disc 2 is also blu-ray Disc has even more extras has over 1 hr worth of new interviews with Producer Laura Gregory, Line producer Laurie Borg, creature effect artist Cliff wallace, Cinematographer Clive Tickner,
all together is 90mins plus the never before released Japanese cut of the film runtime 95mins in 2:20:1 ratio roughly so this cut has extra scenes edited back in the film that's not in the 90min cut
picture quality seems to be taken direct from a VHS master tape/1st Generation source tape
so about roughly 6-7/10 for picture quality in English with Japanese subtitles,
plus more extras a 1992 making of featurette with interviews of Rutger Hauer, kim cattrall and others goes for 6mins in Digital remaster quality plus Deleted scenes, plus 7 promo TV spots, Theatrical trailer in HD plus a thick booklet included inside the thick cover box with 2 Discs in a standard plastic case
if you love this Rutger Hauer film then buy this 2 disc blu-ray set, 5 stars for it based on new extras
and the Japanese cut, the Discs are region B of course being a UK release

Owners of the original 101 Films’ Blu Ray of Split Second will know well it’s visuals were arguably the weakest aspect of that release. Soft, grainy and barely above DVD standard was about the best one would describe it! Well the good news is that the 2020 limited edition, as the packaging promises, delivers improvement, but only just.
Indeed, “newly scanned” and “4K graded” this may be but sadly the image is still far from sharp and grain still predominates rendering this frankly disappointing. Those therefore thinking to ‘upgrade’ with this limited edition would do well to consider this paucity in image improvement.

This is a "B" horror/sci fi flik and I find it to be a blast. Great way to kill a dull or rainy afternoon or evening. The action is fast and brutal the characters are all over the top. Tony Maylam director keeps it moving at a quick pace. The story is there just to get the set up for the murders. Ruger is at his best and appears to adlib a lot of the characters lines and actions. This film is a fun and worth it ride to all true "B" movie fans.
Nice Blue Ray transfer and good sound.

Saw this on VHS release in 92/93, my memory lied to me, however I was 14 then so....
Set in a climate changed London, features Pete Poselthwait( dislikes Rutga) . Bad attitude dangerous cop hunts a seriel killer in a water logged England. Taunts Rutga through out. Satanic symbols and a predator Alien would write for some edge of the seat action.
The movie lacks tense moment & build ups, feels sterile tbh bad acting or script?!?!, hard to tell. Its like an episode of the bill crossed with troma.
Imo I wouldn't part with cash over £10 for this

In a futuristic London 2008, the rising sea levels mean that large areas are under water. Rutger Hauer plays a cop who previously lost his partner to some strange creature. Now the creature is back and its after him.
This is a great sci-fi classic with plenty of great looking scenery and sets, cool action mainly in the form of bloody shoot-outs, cool cast, Rutger Hauer was a great actor back in the 90's, also stars Kim Cattrall and the great Pete Postlethwaite in a small role, good soundtrack too, the movie has a hint of blade runner and alien and predator 2 all in one, great effects too, cool looking alien, certainly one to pick up, great to see these little gems getting new releases.
Blu-ray picture is 1080p HD looks good, a slight step up from previous releases.
Features include a short 4-min reel of deleted Japanese scenes.
Region B only, 91-mins, 1991.
Filmed entirely on location in London England.
