When Dav Pilkey was a kid, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hallway every day. Luckily, Dav loved to draw and make up stories. He spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comic books - the very first adventures of Dog Man and Captain Underpants.

In college, Dav met a teacher who encouraged him to illustrate and write. He won a national competition in 1986 and the prize was the publication of his first book, World War Won. He made many other books before being awarded the 1998 California Young Reader Medal for Dog Breath, which was published in 1994, and in 1997 he won the Caldecott Honor for The Paperboy.

The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby, published in 2002, was the first complete graphic novel spin-off from the Captain Underpants series and appeared at #6 on the USA Today bestseller list for all books, both adult and children's, and was also a New York Times bestseller. It was followed by Super Diaper Baby 2: The Invasion of the Potty Snatchers, also a USA Today bestseller. The unconventional style of these graphic novels is intended to encourage uninhibited creativity in kids.

His stories are semi-autobiographical and explore universal themes that celebrate friendship, tolerance, and the triumph of the good-hearted.

Dav loves to kayak in the Pacific Northwest with his wife.

this is the worst book because it introduced us to lil petey aka cat kid. this cheese ball is now taking over dogmans books and being the most stupid lolypops and rainbows kid ever. lil petey is so childish and thinks the world is so great when its not. he is also so bad at fighting but hey dogman saves him like hy isit still called dog man. if i could write the 10 book i would get lil petey sabbed trough the heart by his fish friend. then dog man could continue to do super here stuff and stop me from cringing after reading every book.

Our son is obsessed by the Investigators books that are of a similar format. But as there are only 4 books in that series as of yet, I’ve tried to still his hunger for literature with Dog Man.
This book is good, it contained a few pages that provide some detail about the concept of Dogman who is part dog, part policeman and how he confronts his adversary a striped orange cat, Petey.

Our son likes this book the most among his few other Dog Man books. In this volumes Petey the cat escapes form jail and on a mission to dominated the world. Somehow he gets distracted to cloning himself, but this ends up with an undesirable, adorable result... At the same time an evil brought-back-to-life fish is trying to take over the city!!. Well, enough for Dog Man to get his paws on and to leave everything in a messy state.
I can totally see why boys of his age like to read these books; they are witty, incredibly funny, the goofy narrative is straightforward that reads very well, and the illustrations are brilliant. Five stars.

My son read this in school and begged me to buy this for him, he's teacher has hid these books at school because the children keep arguing over them. Since then, i have bought the whole collection. It reads like a comic which i did not expect but he has read it about 10 times, he loves this book and it is perfect for children, it is fun to read and engaging. It also has little activites within the book which creates a fun reading experience.

My 8 year old love this book. Not sure I get it - "Dogman". Is he a dog or a man? How did the chap who wrote this and Captain Underpants come up with such an inspiring list of characters? Excuse me while I plug my new series of kids book comprising of "Shed Boy" - who fights crime from his garden shed fashioning woodwork... or "Snood Boy" - who fights crime and adopts an alter ego using his snood...

Who cares... My kids likes it and its part of his approved reading list...

My daughter who is seven has fallen in love with these books! It’s a great way for kids to become independent readers as the balance of text and images is perfect. It’s essentially a good comic with fun (and a bit weird) storylines. When we do reading at bedtime of ‘proper’ books, she then picks this one up to tears in bed herself afterwards which we love to see.
