Extraordinary book by an extraordinary woman

As a teenager, the author found herself in Auschwitz, struggling to survive with her sister Magda. By a series of sheer flukes coupled with their own stubborn hope, they survived, although at liberation they were scarcely alive. In the years that followed, Edith married, had children, moved to the US, and eventually became a psychotherapist. A very good one, who eventually allowed herself to open up about her war experience and deal with its trauma. It sounds easy, put like that, but it’s anything but. It’s hard work, and her life journey has been to help others deal with their own traumas and griefs. She worked particularly with military personnel, and became a renowned and inspiring speaker. This book tells her story, and the stories of others, in a heartfelt compassionate way. She uses plain English, so her book is very accessible. No doubt it has helped many, and will continue to do so. An absolute standout in the field.
