5.0 out of 5 starsA memoir of a survivor
Reviewed in Australia on 18 October 2020
I nearly didn’t read this book; another Holocaust story ? No!
It’s hard to believe that their was such cruelty placed on such lovely people. This story is told by an elderly man called Eddie Jacu. Beautifully written, with a moving humility it’s not full of hatred, it is filled with love and hope.
Each chapter is a story, lessons learned, a message for all and with a sense of humour. An easy read, easy to get into. You can feel the warmth of Eddie on each page.
A truly wonderful read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dragged out too long with no resolution at the end.

I was very disappointed with this book. It was suggested if you liked The Kite Runner you would enjoy this.
There was no comparison either in content or writing.
However , it was a true story.
There was no connection towards the end.
Never explained how he met his wife or found his mother.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as wonderful as Man's search for meaning.
Reviewed in India on 16 September 2021

This book is mostly narrative of the incidents. I was more interested in reading about what was going on in his mind, how he coped up those circumstances. How he became the happiest man on earth But there were hardly few sentences all through, where he wrote about mental processing.
I had read man's search for meaning almost a decade back, wanted to revise same. So thought of reading this book instead.
After reading this book and feeling unsatisfied, I picked Man's search for meaning again. I found a huge difference. Dr Victor was a psychologist And was working on logotherapy, so he focused more on his thoughts, how he coped up rather than plain narrative.
