A moving and excellent story, well written and emotional. Sally Hepworth brought her characters magnificently to life - Zoe with such deep anxiety that she can hardly function in life, Harry - a boy inflicted with Chrone's disease, surely so unfair for a teenager. The supporting cast of Kate and the interlocking of Sonje was amazing and very well told.
I loved this book and cried at the end. I would love to read more of Ms Hepworth's work but will have to wait until I can budget for them. In the meantime, I am delighted to have been able to read this one. I wish I could give it more than five stars!

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Good Sister and The Mother-in-Law with new novel The Younger Wife out now.
Three women, one girl and the vow that binds them.
Alice and her daughter Zoe have been a team of two all their lives. They've never needed anyone else - until Alice gets sick.
Alice reaches out to two near-strangers: Kate, her oncology nurse, and Sonja, her social worker. As the lives of the three women become inextricably tied, a chain of events is set into motion, forcing them to confront their deepest fears and secrets.
Imbued with heart and humour in even the darkest moments, The Mother's Promise is an unforgettable novel about the strength of a mother's love.

Took me a while to get into, but do stick with it - it’s a really well written tale of 4 women (3 grownups, 1 teen), some look like that have it all, others struggle more but rise above it all - a tear jerker, lovely book.

This book was a beautiful story from beginning to end. I recently lost my mother to cancer (though I am 34), she did a wonderful job of writing about a mother and daughter travelling through a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Highly recommend.

Loved the characters of Alice, Kate, Sonja and Zoe - each playing amazing roles in this story.
It covered so many incredibly emotional topics so extremely close to my heart. I have survived cancer but my sister with teenage children didn't. I have been through infertility treatment and Sally totally conveyed exactly how it feels as a woman and the effects it has on a relationship.
I brilliant story of loneliness, family, courage and love. Tearing up again as I write this.

I loved this book. Strongly empathised with the characters - all except George. Interesting and relevant themes: family, social anxiety, domestic violence, cancer, death and - love!

When I read the introduction I was worried it would make me feel too sad but I was so involved with the story that I couldn't put it down! A mothers love for her children is deep and lasting and I felt this throughout the story! I have read all of Sally Hepworth's books and thoroughly enjoyed them all!

A few tough topics in this story! Still unable to put the book down just the same! Sensitivity in the raw telling worked for me! Super happy/sad ending which I loved!

The only problem with this book is that I couldn't put it down. I don't usually like emotional stories, preferring something a bit more edgy, but the characters in this were so real that I actually had a tear at the end. I will read more of this author's books but not just yet or I won' t get anything done!
